Buccaneers vs Giants Betting Notes

  • Tampa Bay Bucs -11 vs New York Giants
  • Total: 50 Points
  • The Giants are 19-5 against the spread in their last 24 games as a road underdog.
  • Tampa Bay is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games as a favorite.
  • The under is 18-7-1 in the Giants’ last 26 games.

The look-ahead line in this Week 11 Monday Night Football matchup at most Vegas and Offshore stores had Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 12.5-point home favorites. The Week 10 event that found the Washington Football Team earning a 29-19 upset win over the Buccaneers resulted in adjustment by most shops. Circa of Las Vegas opened Tom Terrific and the Bucs as 11.5-point chalk, with the total first posted at 50.5 points. When this game preview went to press, Tampa as 11-point favorites, with the total receiving some back-and-forth action but the opening total holding serve at 50.5 points.

The Buccaneers are back home for a matchup against the Giants on Ray Jay grass. This Week 11 Monday Night Football event will be the first time in nearly a month that Tom Brady and his Bucs will have played at The New Sombrero in nearly a month. In addition, Tampa Bay will finish the divisional portion of their schedule, the NFC East tour. The last four games (since 2017) between these two NFC clubs have been decided by three points or less.

New York Giants (3-6, 1-3 Away) own the 25th ranked total defense and oppose the 3rd ranked offense of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-3, 4-0 Home). Tampa enters their one and only Monday Night appearance on a two-game losing streak. The New York “Football” Giants have had two weeks to prepare for Tom Terrific. The Big Blue are off a Week 10 bye. The last time we eye-balled the Giants was a Week 9 Sunday with Daniel Jones connecting with TE Evan Engram on a 30-yard touchdown pass and Graham Gano kicking three field goals in a home win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Giants play their usual role of road underdog tonight. The difference between the first half New York Giants and tonight’s Big Blue Wrecking Crew is health. Running back, Saquon Barkley and left tackle Andrew Thomas, who have missed the last three games, are slated to dress and play against the Bucs defense.

The Giants are as close to having their top six offensive playmakers active for the same game as they have been all season. Fortunately, the only skilled player of the Giants’ top-6 contributors expected to miss tonight’s game is veteran wideout Sterling Shepard (quad).

New York Giants

The Giants rank 24th in points scored through Week 10, averaging 19.9 points per game. In addition, the Giants offense has been without as many as five of their top offensive producers for every game this season.

The return of New York’s All-Pro running back Barkley is big for tonight’s game in Tampa. However, Barkley will not have a full workload and will be limited by sharing snaps and series with Devontae Booker (hip), who isn’t 100 percent.

WR Kenny Golladay, the No. 1 wide receiver, has been active for six games this season. Golladay has 19 catches on 32 targets that include 310 yards receiving with no touchdowns. Golladay hasn’t been 100 percent for any one game, but Week 3 and 4 were as close to full speed as the first-year Giants wideout has been. The Week 3 and 4 matchups, against the Falcons and the Saints, resulted in 10 catches for 180 yards.

The Big Blue enter Monday night rested per the team’s schedule, which offered a Week 10 bye.

The Giants have been a tough out for Tampa the last two seasons. The Big Blue Wrecking Crew rallied from an 18-point deficit to win at Tampa Bay in Daniel Jones’ first NFL start in 2019. New York led in the 2020 prime-time matchup at halftime, eventually losing a 25-23 back and forth battle to the Super Bowl champs.

The Giants’ defense has more resembled the unit with the strongback a year ago carrying the Giants from Sunday to Sunday. New York has allowed just 39 points in winning two of the last three games.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers went into last Sunday’s matchup against the Washington Football Team rested and off a bye but were flat throughout the game. Arians wasn’t pleased with the effort and energy put forth during the game, but the Bucs’ penalties were a bigger problem for the squad, in his opinion.

Turnovers, penalties, poor decisions, and a lack of emotion have been prevalent in the two straight road losses. Throw in the defense’s inability to stop the Saints and the Washington Football Team from converting third downs is one of the primary differences of this year’s defense compared to the Super Bowl winning unit of 2020.

“It’s very disappointing,” head coach Bruce Arians spoke about in the post-game presser after losing to Washington of Tampa Bay’s performance. “It’s very alarming to watch the energy at every practice and show up with a lack of execution and energy that it takes to win on Sunday. We’ve got a lot of soul-searching to do.”

Minutes after the Bucs loss to Washington, Arians went directly to the players’ mental errors and undisciplined penalties the last two weeks, both road losses, to Washington the previous Week and New Orleans before the team’s Week 10 bye. The coach said he believes there’s nothing wrong with the team that competing smarter and more passion can’t solve.

“The stupidity has to go away if we’re gonna go anywhere,” Arians remarked.

The Bucs defense has walked back from a dominating 2020 campaign. The Washington Football Team ran 71 plays in last week’s contest at FedExField. Those 71 plays by that quarterback Taylor Heinicke and the WFT offense ran resulted in Washington dominating time of possession.

Washington closed the Week 10 win out with a 10-minute touchdown drive and dominated time of possession with owning possession of the ball for 39:08. The Buccaneers ran just 47 total plays in 20:52 time of possession.

Arians is confident that the offense can keep the team in first place until defensive coordinator Todd Bowles fixes the defense. Brady and the Bucs are the No. #1 passing offense and sacks (allowed) unit in the league.

Buccaneers vs Giants Injury Report

New York Giants
RB Saquon Barkley (ankle) is listed as questionable but expected to be available.
RB Devontae Booker (hip) is listed as questionable but expected to be available.
OT Andrew Thomas (ankle) has been designated to return from IR
FB Cullen Gillaspia (calf) is questionable
TE Kaden Smith (knee) is questionable
WR Sterling Shepard (quadriceps) has been ruled out
S Nate Ebner (ankle) has been ruled out
CB Logan Ryan (illness) has been ruled out
LB Lorenzo (ankle/illness) has been ruled out

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
DT Vita Vea (knee) is doubtful
DT Rakeem Nunez-Roches (Questionable)
LS Zach Triner designated Triner to return from their injured reserve
TE Rob Gronkowski (back) did not practice Saturday and is listed as questionable
WR Antonio Brown (ankle) has been ruled out
CB Richard Sherman (calf) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday.

For the first time this season, the Giants will have a cohesive offensive line. The Giants have started the same five on the offensive front for the last three games. The combination of Matt Peart at left tackle, Matt Skura at left guard, Billy Price at center, Will Hernandez at right guard, and Nate Solder at right tackle will see the return of starting left tackle Andrew Thomas, who was activated off injured reserve.

This season, the Bucs are 5-0 with Brown in the lineup and are 1-3 when Brown is inactive.

The return of Barkley, even in what is expected to be a limited role, along with a full gambit of offensive weapons, save Shepard, make the Giants and the double-digit points a live dog tonight in Tampa.

Buccaneers vs Giants Analysis from The GoldSheet

Last week’s bye, on the heels of an uplifting win over the Raiders to give the Giants their best mark after nine games (it’s only 3-6) since 2016, suggests progress, albeit slowly. And it might start to come a bit faster this week if some of the recently-infirmed, like Saquon Barkley, Kenny Golladay, and Sterling Shepard can return to the fold, giving QB Daniel Jones the rare opportunity to have all hands on deck.

Rest assured that Bruce Arians will also remind his Bucs that NY has allowed 20 points or fewer in its last three games, while the Bucs have plenty of their own issues to fix after coming out of their bye week flat as pancakes last week at Washington, and yet to eradicate a string of penalties at the least-opportune times. Finally, let’s also note forget that the G-Men have proven spoilers for Tom Brady before, so don’t be surprised if this turns into a real scrap as was last year’s game at MetLife, when TB barely survived 25-23.
