Joet Gonzalez vs Isaac Dogboe Analysis

‘Royal Storm’ Isaac Dogboe was on an absolute tear over the last half of the previous decade, running up an 18-0 record with eight knockouts over his previous 11 contests before facing former undefeated junior featherweight champion Jessie Magdaleno in Philadelphia in what was by far the biggest test of his career.

Dogboe passed that test with flying colors however, knocking down Magdaleno multiple times en route to an 11th round stoppage victory but the African champion suffered back-to-back losses not long after to Emanuel Navarrete, and has been looking to fight his way back into the world title mix ever since.

Dogboe wasn’t the only fighter to have fallen short at the hands of Emanuel Navarrete. Joet Gonzalez also lost to the Mexican champion in October of last year in an entertaining fight which Gonzalez lost on points.

That loss to Navarrete marked only Gonzalez’s second pro loss over his career so far and with the first coming against one of the best fighters in the sport right now in Shakur Stevenson, Gonzalez will no doubt feel confident those experiences have only strengthened his career moving forward.

It’s hard to look past a Joet Gonzalez win here on Saturday night over in Minnesota.

While Dogboe has responded from those two defeats against Navarrete with three straight wins, he hasn’t looked overly impressive in any of them, an 8th round stoppage of former Carl Frampton and Leo Santa Cruz opponent Chris Avalos being among the highlights, and he was arguably very fortunate to hang on for the win against Adam Lopez last year as well.

Joet Gonzalez meanwhile has solid performances against Navarrete and Stevenson to fall back on and an excellent win against Miguel Marriaga in 2020 also, and that experience should provide enough different looks to frustrate Dogboe in this one and get the win.

This should be a very entertaining fight on Saturday with Dogboe’s all-action style paired with Gonzalez’s fluid counter boxing ability, but we’re nevertheless rolling with Joet Gonzalez in this one to get the win over Isaac Dogboe in Minnesota.
