French Ligue One Title Race
PSG absolutely dominated the league last season with a 15-point cushion over nearest rivals Marseille, and it’s difficult to see any team presenting a real challenge to them ahead of this season.
However, at -1000 PSG presents little value in that market and we’re instead going to single out a team we were high on last year as a potential outsider, Monaco, that could well go far this season.
Monaco started off last year all the way down in 10th position and was forced to rally back over the back-half of the season, ranking as the best team in the league overall, even over PSG, from December 1st on to eventually finish up in third in the league.
Monaco has one of the most dynamic and youthful squads in the entirety of Ligue One with a solid mix of experience up front to balance that youth with the likes of Wissam Ben Yedder and Kevin Volland.
While we don’t see them quite having enough to knock PSG off the throne this season, at +350 to finish in 2nd (Or the “to win without PSG” market), that’s a play we like the value on ahead of the new season.
European Qualification
Top-3 is the prevalent betting market in French Ligue One instead of top-4 like Europe’s other top leagues because France only gets three automatic spots into the Champions League. It’s no surprise we’re going back to the well on the team we outlined previously in this article Monaco as the team best suited to repeat their accomplishment of last year.
Monaco is +125 to finish inside the top-3 this season, and we believe that’s a solid play.
Ligue One Relegation Odds
After a bright start to last season which saw Montpellier rank fifth in the league with 31 points banked over just their opening 19 games, the wheels well and truly fell off ‘La Paillade’s’ season, banking just 12 total points the entire rest of the year, by far the worst haul in the league.
The data backs that slump up for Montpellier as well as they ranked as the second-worst team on xPTS from January 1st on, ahead of only relegated Metz, and accumulated just one solitary win over the final three months of the season as well.
With Montpellier adding very little to their squad in the off-season to offset this, +300 looks like solid value on the team from the Mediterranean to go down this year in French Ligue 1.
