Arslanbek Makhmudov vs Guido Vianello Betting Analysis

Heavy-handed Russian knockout artist Arslanbek Makhmudov returns to the ring this weekend taking on the ever-entertaining Roman ‘Gladiator’ Guido Vianello in what should be an all-action fight up in Canada on Saturday.

Makhmudov bounced back with a 2nd round KO of Miljan Rovcanin back in May after suffering his only career defeat against Agit Kabayel late last year, a defeat that has aged significantly better considering Kabayel went on to defeat the highly-fancied Frank Sanchez in May via stoppage.

Guido Vianello has two defeats on his resume to date, but showed in his last fight against Efe Ajagba that he can still be a real handful in fights, and is priced up extremely competitively in this one as a result.

Arslanbek Makhmudov goes into this fight as the -250 favorite, with Guido Vianello coming back as the +190 underdog.

Brakes Put On Makhmudov’s Steam Train Career

After 18 straight victories to open up his career, with 17 of them coming by way of knockout, many people had Russia’s 6’6” tank Arslanbek Makhmudov on their radar as a potential world title challenger in the near future.

Those thoughts were no more evident than when Makhmudov went in as a colossal -850 favorite against the unbeaten Agit Kabayel last year, a fight the big Russian finally met his match in.

Makhmudov tried to steamroll Kabayel early in that fight, winging in huge hooks and uppercuts on the smaller man but to no avail as Kabayel proved too fast for Makhmudov, getting inside Makhmudov’s leaky guard and eventually finishing him to the body with some big shots downstairs.

The ‘Gladiator’ Proving Doubters Wrong

After a majority decision draw against Kingsley Ibeh earlier in his career, and then suffering a first professional loss at the hands of Jonathan Rice early last year also, a defeat that came from an unfortunate cut for Vianello, many people had the ‘Gladiator’ penciled as a tough, but nonetheless, limited journeyman that might be able to give some work to other prospective title challengers.

That thought process played out in the odds to his last fight as Vianello went in as the sizeable +450 underdog against Nigerian knockout artist Efe Ajagba back in April, a fighter who was clearly on the trail back to a potential world title challenge after a run of four straight victories against solid opposition.

However, Vianello mustn’t have gotten the memo as he blasted Ajagba with a huge overhand right to close out the 2nd round, a shot that if it had landed any earlier, likely would have handed the Italian heavyweight the win via knockout.

Ajagba was able to survive however, and make some adjustments in the middle of the fight, but Vianello nevertheless outlanded Ajagba over the course of the fight, and owned a sizeable 118-93 power punch advantage also, leading to at least one judge scoring the fight for Vianello.

Arslanbek Makhmudov vs Guido Vianello Expert Prediction

With a 94.7% and 83.3% KO percentage respectively, chances are we don’t see this one go the full ten rounds on Saturday.

Knockout percentages that high can sometimes have the opposite effect however, with neither fighter willing to fully test the waters against an opponent that can hit that hard.

However, Makhmudov’s defense is extremely sub-par, with Kabayel able to open him up almost at will once he survived that initial onslaught, and that fact likely won’t be lost on a fighter as savvy as Guido Vianello in this one.

‘The Gladiator’ has solid power of his own, and showed in his last fight against Ajagba that he can seriously hurt an opponent, a scary prospect for Makhmudov considering he’s since been exposed as extremely vulnerable to the body against Kabayel, and has a limited gas tank as well.

Take the plus money on offer for Vianello to get the upset this weekend, possibly by stoppage, as the value play on Saturday.
