Bakhram Murtazaliev vs Tim Tszyu Betting Analysis

Former WBO light middleweight champion Tim Tszyu will look to return to the summit of the sport this Saturday night in Orlando, Florida when he takes on current IBF champion Bakhram Murtazaliev in a must-win fight this weekend.

Tszyu, who is coming off an upset loss against Sebastian Fundora in his last outing, was due to fight the extremely dangerous Vergil Ortiz Jr. in August in what would have been one of the best fights of the year before it was unfortunately canceled.

Tszyu was advised by doctors heading into that one that he needed more time to recover after he suffered that brutal head laceration against Fundora back in March, a cut that thankfully appears all good as we head into this weekend’s clash.

Tim Tszyu enters Saturday’s contest as the prohibitive -700 favorite, with Bakhram Murtazaliev coming back as a +450 underdog.

Murtazaliev’s Patience Paid Off

Forced to wait four years for his #1 contender status to finally pay off, Bakhram Murtazaliev grabbed the opportunity given to him with both hands as he dispatched home country favorite Jack Culcay inside eleven rounds to claim his share of the light middleweight crown earlier this year.

Murtazaliev, who had to compromise his religious beliefs in order to get that shot with the fight coming at the end of Ramadan, showed incredible determination in his world title victory, looking spent in the middle portion of the fight after starting well, only to then rally late and stop Culcay with a relentless barrage of blows that ended the fight.

Tszyu Looks To Regain Momentum

After securing brutal stoppage wins over Tony Harrison and Carlos Ocampo respectively to kick off 2023, the calls for Tim Tszyu to get his shot against then undisputed light middleweight champion Jermell Charlo were deafening.

Unfortunately for Tszyu however, that path didn’t come to fruition for him, with Charlo instead electing to face Canelo Alvarez two weight classes above, and Tszyu having to face tough contests against Brian Mendoza and Sebastian Fundora instead, the latter of which proved incredibly costly for him.

After winning most of the opening two rounds against Fundora convincingly, Fundora then opened up a huge gash on Tszyu at the end of the second round which proved too much for the smaller Australian to overcome given the ‘Towering Inferno’s’ unique style.

Bakhram Murtazaliev vs Tim Tszyu Expert Prediction

Both of these fighters possess styles that can cause the other one issues in this fight, which makes it such an incredibly interesting one to watch this weekend.

Murtazaliev has a solid jab, and at 6’ 0”, is considerably taller than Tszyu heading into this one as well, not only being adept at fighting at range because of that length, but also, as Culcay found out to his detriment, being able to fight up close as well, with Murtazaliev having some of the best hook combinations in the entire division.

That said, Culcay’s ability to weave inside of the pocket and attack Murtazaliev’s body directly made the big Russian extremely uncomfortable in his last fight, and there aren’t many better-equipped fighters in the sport to emulate that style right now than Tim Tszyu.

A lot of fighters with high-level jabs, Tony Harrison for example, believed they could keep Tim Tszyu at range and dictate the tempo of the fight, only to discover that the Australian fighter is so adept at closing distance and cutting off the ring that eventually he does get inside and forces a firefight, something that Murtazaliev will very likely come off second-best in should it occur.

Tszyu can’t get reckless either in this one however as Murtazaliev has power of his own, but if Tszyu is switched on here, and provided the cut is fully healed, we’re expecting ‘The Soul Taker’ to get the stoppage victory on Saturday.

Bakhram Murtazaliev vs Tim Tszyu Prediction: Tim Tszyu by KO/TKO (-120)
