Dennis McCann vs Ionut Baluta Betting Analysis

Undefeated rising star Dennis ‘The Menace’ McCann returns to headline Queensbury’s Friday night fight card over in the York Hall in London against former ‘Irish Slayer’ Ionut Baluta in what’s expected to be a solid test for the 22-year-old this week.

McCann has fourteen victories to his name since turning pro back in 2019, stopping eight of those fourteen fighters inside the distance as well, and will no doubt be hoping for more of the same this Friday also.

Baluta meanwhile is a solid 16-4 over his career to date, locked into that tough journeyman role as he continues to rise above expectations, most recently back in March, overcoming two early knockdowns against Andrew Cain to rally back and win a split decision in that contest.

Unsurprisingly, McCann comes into this one as the substantial -500 favorite, with Baluta coming back as a +350 underdog.

McCann All About The Pro Game

In a somewhat unusual set of circumstances to kickstart a pro career in the UK, Dennis McCann had a relatively sparse amateur career, effectively learning on the job as his pro career has moved forward over the last four years.

That hasn’t stopped him from notching some notable victories on his resume so far, however, dispatching extensive amateur veteran Joe Ham in his last fight via an eighth-round stoppage.

McCann is fast and accurate with his style and simply overwhelmed Ham late in that fight, with his sheer volume forcing referee Marcus McDonnell to wave the fight off with Ham being left unable to respond.

The Irish Slayer

Ionut Baluta made somewhat of a name for himself a couple of years ago as the ‘Irish Slayer’, deposing former IBF super-bantamweight king TJ Doheny in Dubai in what was a huge upset back in 2020.

He then followed that up with a 3rd round destruction of former European gold medallist David Oliver Joyce also in what was another huge upset victory for the Romanian fighter.

Unfortunately for Baluta, that was as good as it got as former world title challenger Michael Conlan went on to beat him fairly convincingly on points in this very same venue a little over two years ago.

Dennis McCann vs Ionut Baluta Expert Prediction

This fight should be fireworks from the opening bell on Friday as both fighters like to engage in heavy-handed attacks with a big emphasis on breaking opponents open with quick combinations.

For Baluta, he needs to make sure he isn’t overly reckless early in this fight, getting undone by two huge hooks in the first round of his last fight against Andrew Cain back in March.

Cain then broke his hand in that first round which proved an extremely fortunate occurrence for Baluta who had been struggling massively up to that point, allowing him to then rally back and claim the victory late.

While McCann might not possess the same raw power as Andrew Cain does, he nonetheless makes up for that in his speed and precision, with his accuracy potentially proving extremely troublesome for Baluta on Friday if he leaves himself too open.

On the flip side, this is arguably McCann’s first serious test to date, and at only 22 years of age, despite how talented he has looked up to this point, Baluta is certainly no joke and has continued to come through as a substantial underdog in past big fights, most notably against the aforementioned TJ Doheny, David Oliver Joyce, and Andrew Cain.

Baluta showed against both Cain and Conlan that if he can weather that early storm, he becomes incredibly dangerous as the fight wears on, really putting it on Conlan later in their fight and putting Cain down with a huge right hand early in the ninth round of their fight also.

McCann needs to show his maturity in this fight as he looks to outbox Baluta from range in bursts, using his faster feet in an almost ambush style to hurt Baluta and then remove himself from the pocket before Baluta has a chance to respond.

Ionut Baluta has been the bane of many up-and-comer fighters across recent years on Queensbury cards, and will aim to do the same to McCann this week also.

McCann however, is the faster of these two fighters in terms of combination punching, and has shown pinpoint accuracy in fights as well.

As long as he doesn’t get overly reckless in there, he definitely has the tools needed, just as Michael Conlan and Liam Davies did before him, to win this one on points on Friday.
