Denys Berinchyk vs Keyshawn Davis Betting Analysis
One of the most highly-touted talents in the entire sport of boxing, Keyshawn Davis, takes to the ring this Friday night over in New York looking to win his first world title as he takes on tough, undefeated WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk.
Berinchyk came off a hard-fought split-decision win against Emanuel Navarrete last year, with Navarrete finally meeting his match in terms of volume and output, with Berinchyk’s energy actually proving too much even for Navarrete, with the Ukrainian fighter outlanding him significantly across large portions of that fight, especially to the body.
The sportsbooks however don’t believe that should prove much of a concern for Davis in this one with the Virginia native being installed as the prohibitive -750 favorite right now consensus, with Berinchyk coming back as a healthy +525 underdog.
Lightweight Scene Stacked With Talent
The lightweight title picture is absolutely stacked with elite-level talent right now, with IBF champion Vasiliy Lomachenko (currently contemplating retirement), Gervonta Davis, and Shakur Stevenson all holding belts and all being regarded as amongst the best fighters in the sport.
Another major obstacle for Davis in the division is his old amateur nemesis, the decorated Cuban fighter Andy Cruz, who beat him in every final across the Pan-American Games, World Championships, and Tokyo Olympic Games to hand Davis three silver medals across his amateur career, something Davis will look to reverse in the pros.
Berinchyk No Easy Out
While Berinchyk on the surface might appear to be the easiest path to a world title for prospective contenders in the lightweight division given the other champions, the Ukrainian is certainly no easy out, combining both volume and accuracy in a style that no previous opponent has been able to figure out.
Like Keyshawn Davis, Berinchyk is a former Olympic silver medalist himself, and his shorter height and frame in fights have allowed him to get in under opponents and cause serious problems to their bodies.
His ability to get inside once again here on Friday will likely be his key to victory.
Denys Berinchyk vs Keyshawn Davis Expert Prediction
Denys Berinchyk should provide a serious test for Keyshawn Davis on Friday as he’s far more seasoned than Davis’ prior opponents.
Davis has looked incredibly effective in neutralizing the highly experienced Jose Pedraza, as well as the dangerous Gustavo Lemos in recent fights, but despite how impressive both of those performances were, an argument could be made that Pedraza has seen better days in the sport, and that Lemos was completely unprofessional ahead of their fight, coming in a massive 6.4 pounds overweight.
That won’t be Denys Berinchyk here on Friday however. The Ukrainian, despite being 36 years of age, is arguably in the prime of his fighting career having just 19 fights so far, and both his volume and pressure should provide Davis plenty to think about throughout the whole 12 rounds of this one.
That said, while I do envision an extremely competitive fight on Friday, and the value in taking Berinchyk either outright or on points does look appealing, boxing is sometimes more of a business than a sport, and adding Keyshawn Davis’ name to the list of champions in the division would no doubt be the preferred option here should the fight be close down the stretch.
Take Keyshawn Davis to win a close decision on Friday against Denys Berinchyk in New York.
