Young super-middleweight phenom Diego Pacheco returns to action this Saturday night over in Las Vegas, Nevada as he takes on a fighter 13 years his senior this weekend in ‘So Cold’ Steven Nelson.

Despite the pronounced age gap between the two fighters, both men will enter the ring with undefeated records on Saturday, with both amassing those records largely through impressive knockout ratios, with Pacheco racking up an 81.8% KO percentage across his career so far, while Nelson isn’t too far behind him either at 80%.

Diego Pacheco goes into this one as the significant -400 favorite this weekend, with Steven Nelson coming back as a +300 underdog at most books.

Pacheco In Line For Canelo’s WBO Crown

Standing at an imposing 6 ft 4 in tall, and with a huge reach advantage over most of his opponents, Diego Pacheco presents a huge problem for the rest of the super-middleweight division to deal with, especially as he continues to gain more experience.

However, while Diego Pacheco does have the likes of Jack Cullen and Maciej Sulecki on his resume, fringe world title contenders, Nelson has really fought no one of note up to this point, with Saturday’s fight against Pacheco providing a real litmus test for his undefeated record.

Steven Nelson is better than advertised here, with his experience through age alone ensuring he doesn’t get overly reckless in fights, and he showed that in his last bout by being extremely patient in pressuring, and eventually breaking down, Marcos Vazquez over five rounds on the undercard of Terence Crawford and Israil Madrimov back in August.

That said, that constant pressure that Nelson likes to exhibit in fights will likely land him in hot water here as Pacheco is one of the crispest counter-punchers in the entire sport, with Jack Cullen’s similarly pressuring style walking him onto a lethal left hand to the body, a shot he never recovered from.

Nelson does have the potential to cause Pacheco as many problems as Shawn McCalman did recently, another under-appreciated fighter, should he manage to get inside and smother Pacheco’s length in this one, but Pacheco has learned from that experience as he showed against Maciej Sulecki in his last fight, so it’s very likely Nelson’s high-pressure style will be his downfall here on Saturday night.
