Filip Hrgovic vs Mark de Mori Betting Analysis
The undefeated Filip Hrgovic takes on Mark de Mori this Saturday night over in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in one of the biggest fight cards of the year so far, featuring Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder, Jai Opetaia, Dmitry Bivol, and a host of other recognizable former world champions as well.
That likely won’t distract Filip Hrgovic however as with a win on Saturday night he puts himself firmly in line to face the winner of Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury in February for a shot at becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
Standing in his way this weekend is a fighter in Mark de Mori who is currently on an eleven-fight win streak, but who faces a serious step up in competition on Saturday against an elite unit in Hrgovic, with the odds reflecting that disparity as well, with Hrgovic going into this one as the substantial -5000 favorite, and de Mori coming back at a +1600.
Hrgovic Marches Towards Heavyweight Crown
With a run of seven straight victories between 2019 to 2021 that saw Hrgovic finish every opponent he faced within five rounds, the march to heavyweight glory appeared almost inevitable for the former Olympic Bronze Medalist.
However, after the death of his father in early 2022, Hrgovic was forced to pull out of the proposed Zhilei Zhang fight as an IBF eliminator, a fight that even when rescheduled later in the year, Hrgovic admitted his head was simply elsewhere.
That close, somewhat controversial, win for Hrgovic over Zhang last year has aged like fine wine for ‘El Animal’ however, with Zhang absolutely blasting out top contender Joe ‘Juggernaut’ Joyce in back-to-back fights over the last twelve months, so if he can get back to his best ahead of this one, Hrgovic remains a serious player in the heavyweight division.
The Viking Looks To Step Up To The Occasion
On the surface, Australian Mark de Mori has been on a red-hot run of late in the heavyweight division since his last loss against David Haye all the way back in 2016.
However, when analyzing the records of those recent opponents, 6-38 Laszlo Czene, 5-19 Satria Antasena, and so on, it really does highlight de Mori’s threadbare resume across his 41-2-2 career, and he looks to be badly out of his depth heading into Saturday night’s clash against ‘El Animal’.
Both of De Mori’s losses over his career so far have come by knockout with former world champion David Haye absolutely obliterating him inside just two minutes back in 2016 with a huge overhand right that actually had the emergency team called into the ring.
Filip Hrgovic vs Mark de Mori Expert Prediction
While we obviously can’t compare David Haye’s knockout of Mark de Mori to what could potentially happen on Saturday night, with Haye, even at that advanced stage of his career, still being far more explosive in fights than anything Hrgovic has shown so far.
The simple fact is de Mori is now 41 years of age, and while Hrgovic mightn’t be as explosive as Haye, he nonetheless hits with a ton of force in fights which has led to 13 of his 16 opponents failing to see the final bell against him.
It’s hard to envision de Mori, given his age, given his brittleness in fights, lasting any sort of distance here against a fighter who hits as hard with either hand as Filip Hrgovic does, and while it doesn’t give us much wiggle room in terms of distance, the Hrgovic KO prop in rounds 1-2 at plus money looks like the most appealing play on Saturday.
Prediction: Filip Hrgovic To Win In Rounds 1-2 (+105)
