Huge unification clash this weekend over in London in the women’s welterweight division as WBA and Ring title holder, Wales’ Lauren Price, takes on the IBF and WBC champion, Liverpool’s Natasha Jonas, on Saturday down in the English capital.

Lauren Price has the advantage in age heading into this one, being the younger of the two by a full ten years, but Natasha Jonas has been on a tremendous run recently, reeling off seven straight victories since her close points decision loss against Katie Taylor back in 2021.

That said, the books nonetheless favor Price’s youth and momentum heading into this one, with the Newport woman being installed as the prohibitive -475 favorite this weekend, with Natasha Jonas coming back as a +350 underdog.

Price Always On Golden Path After Amateur Glory

With Lauren Price securing gold in the Commonwealth, European, World Championships, and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games also, her path to success in the professional ranks was all but assured from a very early stage.

All of the major UK promoters wanted Lauren’s signature on their contract due to her generational talent, but in the end, she opted to go with Ben Shalom’s Boxxer, with his TV deal with Sky Sports in the UK being a major factor in that decision in terms of getting her brand into as many households as possible.

Jonas Takes Longer Route To Success

Natasha Jonas took a longer route to boxing success than her opponent on Saturday, initially opting to play soccer full-time, yet was forced to halt that potential career path due to injury. Jonas’ boxing career therefore didn’t start until she was 21 years of age, an extraordinarily late start date for someone taking up a sport for the first time.

However, Jonas took to boxing readily, with her athletic background ensuring early success, and only being derailed in the 2012 London Olympic Games by running into old foe Katie Taylor. Jonas did pick up silver at the European Championships two years later before opting to go pro.

Natasha Jonas is coming off two of the best wins of her career so far in Mikaela Mayer and Ivana Habazin, but the Mikaela Mayer definitely could have gone either way, with Mayer actually outlanding Jonas by a significant 137-110 power punch advantage in that fight, and closing out the much stronger of the two as well.

That was despite Mayer moving up in weight also against the perceived heavier-handed Jonas, but with Jonas fighting in her home city of Liverpool, she was able to get the nod in that one, a luxury she won’t have this time around.

Price is hugely popular over in the UK, and with her ability to get in and out of range fluidly and deliver fast combinations up top, it could be a hard night’s work for Jonas here on Saturday.

The Lauren Price to win by decision prop at -200 is high, and while it certainly doesn’t appeal as a straight bet, it might be worth pairing it up with something else this weekend as Lauren Price likely takes the victory on Saturday down in London.
