Undefeated phenom Vergil Ortiz Jr. returns to the ring on Saturday over in Fresno, California to lock in his second fight of 2024 so far after taking a protracted hiatus from the sport across most of the preceding two years.

After numerous fight cancellations and delays, a bout of rhabdomyolysis finally put Ortiz Jr. out of action for almost 18 months, but 2024 has offered new hope for the KO machine, and he intends to waste no time in taking advantage of it and getting back to the summit of the sport.

Mission 2024 Is All About A World Title For Vergil Ortiz Jr.

After an almost 18-month layoff from the sport, and a serious bout of rhabdomyolysis to go along with it, many people reasonably assumed Vergil Ortiz Jr., despite his ferocious knockout percentage, would simply ease himself back into the sport earlier this year and look to bank some rounds.

However, the Texas native must not have gotten the memo as he absolutely ran through Frederick Lawson inside a round back in January, putting Lawson up against the ropes and delivering thunderous hooks downstairs which was enough to get the referee to call a halt to proceedings with almost a full minute remaining in the round.

Dulorme Looking To Snap Current Losing Streak

Thomas Dulorme has been ever the bridesmaid across his career so far and unfortunately, rarely the bride, fighting a literal who’s who of established names in the division, yet rarely coming out on the right side of the result.

DeMarcus Corley, Hank Lundy, Terence Crawford, Yordenis Ugas, and Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, are just some of the high-profile names glittering Dulorme’s resume, and ‘The Frenchman’ will look to add to that this weekend fighting one of his most dangerous opponents to date in Ortiz.

Vergil Ortiz Jr., when on his game, is one of the most elite fighters in the entire sport, and it’s highly doubtful that Thomas Dulorme can derail that fearsome career this weekend over in California.

While Boots Ennis and Terence Crawford are both elite fighters themselves in terms of picking their shots and delivering a masterclass in technical boxing, Dulorme simply won’t have been in there with a fighter as aggressive as Ortiz Jr. before, a fighter who’s constantly looking to come inside and collapse the pocket, so it’s doubtful even Dulorme’s impressive resume will be of use to him in this one.

However, Ortiz Jr. isn’t just a wrecking machine in fights, able to marry a piledriver jab to first break open his opponent’s defenses before then coming inside with the heavy artillery once they’ve been softened up, a combination that no fighter has been able to weather the storm against to date.

With Thomas Dulorme having fought just one non-televised fight in the Dominican Republic across the last two and 1/2 years of his career, plus Jaron Ennis knocking him down twice en route to a first-round stoppage in his last big fight back in October of 2021 also, Dulorme’s chances look incredibly bleak ahead of Saturday’s contest, especially at the higher contracted weight of 154lb as well.
