Arizona vs Oregon Betting Analysis
Few coaches in the country know how to flip on the February switch quite like Dana Altman at Oregon.
Much like Bill Belichick and how he coaches the first half of the NFL regular season, Altman isn’t shy about how he uses the non-conference slate to try new things and work out issues in his rotation.
The transfer portal and early-season injuries caused this experimentation process to last a little longer than Altman would have liked, but nonetheless, the Ducks appear to be finding their stroke as the calendar turns to February.
Arizona vs Oregon Recent History
In 2019, Oregon began a 12-4 run (which included a win over Arizona) with a winning streak that started on February 6. In 2020, the Ducks ended their season on a 10-3, which included a road win at Arizona.
In 2021, Oregon won ten of its last 11 regular season games, including two wins over Arizona. The ball didn’t bounce the Ducks’ way last year as they finished with five losses in their last six games, but one of those losses was a tight, three-point defeat at Arizona.
So there’s plenty of recent history here to suggest that Altman will have his squad ready for this contest. Oregon won the first contest 87-68 in Eugene.
The key to that contest was Oregon’s ability to keep Arizona off the glass, earning a 42-32 rebounding edge. South Carolina transfer Jermaine Couisnard missed the first 14 games of the season, but scored 27 in that win over Arizona a couple weeks ago and hasn’t slowed down since.
Opponents Sinking Free Throws Against Oregon
Oregon is also due for some free throw regression from opposing teams. The Ducks’ opponents are shooting 77.9-percent from the free throw line this season, which is almost seven percent higher than the national average.
In Pac-12 play, opponents are shooting a ridiculous 81.5-percent from the foul line, which is over ten percent higher than the national average.
Coach Altman would certainly appreciate if those numbers dropped closer to the mean, sooner rather than later.
With the Ducks clicking at full strength, they’ve won four of their last five with that lone loss coming at Stanford. At the time, that loss looked pretty disappointing but the Cardinal have won four in a row, including a 21-point win over Oregon State and a 29-point win over Cal. Not too shabby.
Arizona vs Oregon Expert Prediction
Arizona was a buzzsaw earlier this season, but the ‘Cats have been slowly returning to earth in recent weeks. Four of their eight Pac-12 wins have been tight affairs.
Oregon has the length and athleticism to slow down Arizona’s offense. We won’t call for the outright upset win like the one in Eugene a couple weeks ago, but Oregon has the tools to keep this closer than the oddsmakers expect. Grab the points with the Ducks.
Prediction: Oregon Ducks +8
