BYU vs San Francisco Analysis
BYU will try to right the ship after losing their last two games. The Dons haven’t been much better as of late as they’ve gone 4-4 in their last eight games including a 71-69 loss to BYU on January 15 at home.
San Francisco Treat
The Dons will look to their efficient shooting to take down the Cougars, where they rank 20th nationally in two-point shooting and 37th in effective field goal percentage. Protecting the ball has been an issue for this team giving it up over 19 times per game which is good for 231st in the country. For what it’s worth they have been doing a better job in conference play only coughing it up 15 times per game.
Senior guard Jamaree Bouyea is the clear leader of the team logging over 35 minutes per game along with over 18 points and 5 rebounds per game. He’s also efficient shooting it from downtown at over 41%. If he’s able to find his groove, then Dons could pull off an important road win here.
Look-Ahead Spot?
BYU could be looking ahead at their next matchup with Gonzaga making this a trap game of some sort for the Cougars. They were in a position to make the NCAA Tournament before their last two losses against Santa Clara and Pacific, two games they should’ve won.
BYU is solid at defending the three-pointer allowing opponents to shoot just under 29% from deep. The duo senior guards of Alex Barcello and Te’Jon Lucas lead the Cougars combining for over 27 ppg, 7.5 apg and shooting over 83% from the free-throw line.
