Bradley has taken a roller coaster ride to reach the NIT quarterfinals. Following the Braves’ loss to Drake in the Missouri Valley Championship Game, senior forwards Darius Hannah and Zek Montgomery each opted-out of the postseason.
Montgomery is gone, but Hannah had a change of heart and returned to the program. That unexpected boost helped the Braves get past North Alabama in the opening round and George Mason in the second round.
Chattanooga has been quietly playing some of the best under-the-radar basketball in the country since late-January.
Chattanooga’s only loss over the last two months came against Furman in overtime in the SoCon Tournament.
The Mocs beat conference champ Wofford twice during the regular season. The Mocs beat last week’s NCAA Tournament darling, Bryant, earlier this season. Chattanooga employs a somewhat-similar defense to what Bradley saw from George Mason last week.
The Mocs will use some pressure to try and get the ball out of the hands of Braves’ point guard Duke Deen.
The Patriots did a great job of that, holding Duke to nine points on 3-for-13 shooting with four turnovers. However, they let the rest of the Braves’ roster beat them.
Senior forward Christian Davis scored a career-high 21 points and junior center Corey Thomas came out of nowhere to match him with 21 points.
Thomas scored a total of 17 points in his previous ten games combined, so him scoring 21 against the Patriots (with 11 rebounds!) is something that no one saw coming. The obvious question is, can they do it again?

We’re not too concerned with Chattanooga’s offense on the road. Since January 1, the Mocs have played 12 games away from home and have scored at least 75 points in 11 of those games.
