Hofstra vs Wilmington Analysis
UNC-Wilmington is enjoying one of the wildest seasons in college basketball that very few people are following. The Seahawks lost to Southern Miss (No. 333 according to KenPom), Norfolk State (No. 204) and Jacksonville (No. 215). The beat the No. 357 team (Delaware State) by four points. Since then, the Seahawks have won 13 of their last 14 games, almost all of which have come in come-from-behind fashion.
Hofstra is 14-9 on the season and 12-9 against the spread (not including two non-D1 opponents). The Pride average 75.9 points per game while giving up 74.4 points per game. Hofstra is 8-1 at home with a 4-3 mark against the spread in those home games. The over is 12-9 in games involving Hofstra this season, including 6-1 at home against D1 opponents.
Home Cookin’
Both teams are playing their third game in five nights, but all three of Hofstra’s games have been at home while all three of Wilmington’s games have been on the road. Wilmington won the first meeting between these teams on January 29 by a score of 78-72. Remember when we said almost all of Wilmington’s wins have come in come-from-behind fashion? Hofstra had a 15-point lead in that game and had a 91-percent win probability at one point during the first half.
Pound the Paint
The Pride offense is based on the three-or-rim principles. The three-point part hasn’t worked out all that well. Hofstra shoots a lot of three-pointers, but they’re not very good at making them. Entering Monday, Hofstra is the worst three-point shooting team in the CAA. But the “rim” portion has been very good. The Pride are No. 9 in the country in two-point field goal percentage, and they are fantastic at getting to the foul line. Hofstra is shooting over 80-percent from the foul line this year, including 85.2-percent in conference play.
