Kansas vs Kentucky Analysis
Kentucky heads to Kansas as part of the Big 12 vs SEC Challenge which pits two top-15 teams against each other. Kentucky is coming off a tough overtime win vs Mississippi State 82-74 in which star forward Oscar Tshiebwe accumulated 15 points and 22 rebounds. Kansas is coming off a great conference win as well, beating Texas Tech 94-91.
Wildcats Building Identity
Kentucky’s offense ranks No. 4 in the nation in adjusted efficiency, according to KenPom. The majority of the Wildcat offense runs through the paint as 62% of their points come inside the arc, which is the fifth-highest rate in the country. Thanks largely to Tshiebwe, Kentucky is the best offensive rebounding team in the country.
Jumping Jayhawks
Besides a loss to Dayton early in the season and a tough road loss to Texas Tech earlier this month, Kansas has been superb. Major offensive contributors include guard Ochai Agbaji averaging over 21 ppg and Christian Braun averaging 15 ppg.
Kentucky’s Tshiebwe and Kansas’ David McCormack are No. 1 and No. 2 in the country in offensive rebounding rate, and it will be a treat to watch them battle for 40 minutes. Kentucky does have a more balanced scoring team than the Jayhawks, but the game might be decided by which team’s big man can stay out of foul trouble against the other.
