LSU vs Vanderbilt Betting Analysis

Matt McMahon’s first season in Baton Rouge started with plenty of promise. The Tigers jumped out to a 12-1 start with wins over Arkansas and Wake Forest, plus a two-point loss to a very good Kansas State squad.

Man, have the sails come off the ship since then. LSU is in the midst of a 13-game losing streak and the Tigers have not won since the calendar flipped to 2023. During the 13-game losing streak, LSU is 2-11 against the spread.

Tigers Tamed by SEC Foes

When you’re evaluating bad teams, you want to find out what’s made them so poor. Often times, the team is neglecting one side of the ball over the other. Take Notre Dame in the ACC for example.

The Irish are 2-14 in conference play this season because they can’t defend anyone. Notre Dame’s offense is No. 2 in the country in limiting turnovers and they shoot well from two-point range, three-point range and the free throw line. They have a good offense, but they can’t defend anyone.

When you’re evaluating LSU’s profile right now, there’s not a single thing that you can hang your hat on. The Tigers are last in the SEC in effective field goal offense and defense.

Their offense is last in the conference in efficiency and two-point shooting, and second-from-the-bottom in turnover rate.

The only thing that LSU does remotely well is rebound. Outside of that, there is nothing that you can point to and say, “LSU should have the advantage here.”

Commodores Coming Around

Jerry Stackhouse has had a wild ride in Nashville this season, but he’s pushing the right buttons at the moment.

After starting every game last season, Jordan Wright has moved to the bench and that has allowed Liam Robbins to flourish. The former Minnesota transfer has scored 24, 24 and 32 points in the Commodores’ last three games.

Vanderbilt has been comfortable on the road this season, picking up solid wins at Temple, Georgia and Florida while being very competitive in road losses at Missouri and Texas A&M.

LSU vs Vanderbilt Expert Prediction

In addition to the matchup advantages that Vanderbilt will have, the ‘Dores should have the motivational edge as well.

Obviously LSU wants to break its 13-game losing streak, but the Tigers just blew their two best chances. LSU played Georgia (6-9 in the SEC) right after the Bulldogs beat Kentucky.

They had the ‘Dawgs lined up in the perfect let-down spot, and couldn’t get the job done. Next, LSU hosted South Carolina (3-11 in the SEC) who had lost nine of its previous ten games.

The Tigers couldn’t get the job done. Those were the two best opportunities for LSU to end its losing streak. After those two losses, the reality might be setting in that they might not win another game.

Prediction: Vanderbilt Commodores -2
