Minnesota vs Ohio State Analysis
The 2020-21 Gophers finished 14–15 (6–14 Big Ten) under Richard Pitino, but they proved to be a thorn in the side of the Buckeyes. Minnesota beat Ohio State by 17 in Minneapolis, then hung tough as an 11-point underdog in March, eventually losing by four. Can the Gophers cause EJ Liddell and Co. fits once again this season?
Grab a Board
If you don’t watch this game and only head to the box score, you might be able to tell how this game went based on one stat: Rebounding. Minnesota is No. 354 in the country in offensive rebounding rate. According to KenPom, the average team is rebounding 28.4-percent of their missed shots. The Gophers only grab 19.1-percent of their missed shots.
Minnesota has been out-rebounded in every conference loss so far this season, including 52-26 against Illinois; 39-34 against Indiana; 40-31 vs Iowa; and 44-29 vs Michigan State.
Road Woes
Winning on the road is never easy in the Big Ten, and Ohio State has learned that over the last month. The Buckeyes lost by ten at Wisconsin, lost by 16 at Indiana and were taken to overtime by 6-13 Nebraska before pulling out the late win. Ohio State is a perfect 9-0 at home this season, but that success hasn’t traveled outside of Columbus.
