Portland State vs Sacramento State Betting Analysis

The Big Sky wraps up its regular season on Monday night with a handful of intriguing matchups. No. 1 Eastern Washington will host No. 2 Montana State, but the Eagles have already wrapped up the regular season crown and there are no stakes on the line other than both teams wanting to ride a positive wave into the conference tournament.

The only game with meaningful stakes will take place in Oregon as the Portland State Vikings host the Sacramento State Hornets.

The winner of this game will secure a spot in the main portion of the tournament bracket, while the loser will be forced to participate in the play-in round.

Portland State vs Sacramento State Previous Matchup

Sacramento State won the first meeting 74-63 behind a monstrous second half comeback. Portland State led by 15 with under 15 minutes remaining before the Hornets closed the game on a 42-16 run.

Sacramento State shot a very uncharacteristic 47.6-percent from three-point range in that contest, which is a feat that is unlikely to be duplicated here on Monday night.

Vikings’ leading scorer Cameron Parker was held to eight points in that game, which was his lowest output since the first weeks of the season.

After the game, Parker was involved in a postgame incident and was suspended for Portland State’s next game. Needless to say, the fifth-year senior will be fired up and ready to go for this one.

Parker has scored 20+ in eight of his last nine games, including a 26-point outburst against Montana State on Saturday.

Contrast In Tempo For Portland State and Sacramento State

This matchup features the biggest contrast in tempo in the Big Sky with Portland State playing at the league’s fastest pace, while Sacramento State plays at the slowest (bottom-10 in the country).

The Vikings were able to get the Hornets out of their shell in the first meeting. At 67 possessions, that was tied for the “fastest” Sacramento State game in the Big Sky this season.

Portland State vs Sacramento State Expert Prediction

Portland State will be itching to do that again because the Vikings should have a fairly sizable advantage in their legs.

This will be Sacramento State’s third game in five nights with all three coming on the road. Portland State had all of last week off before making the trek to Montana State on Saturday.

Portland State’s defense is No. 36 in the country in turnover rate. Sacramento State’s offense is No. 320 in the country in turning the ball over and last in the Big Sky.

When you’re playing your third road game in five nights, that’s a recipe for trouble against a swarming, motivated defense.

Prediction: Portland State -2.5
