Texas vs Tennessee Analysis

Tennessee is 2-3 on the road this year while the Longhorns are 12-1 at home. The Volunteers have a couple quality wins on their resume so far over Arizona and LSU, while Texas on the other hand, needs some quality wins as their best thus far is one over Oklahoma at home. This game is sure to be highly contested with each coming off back-to-back wins over their respective conference foes.

Pushing Toward March

Tennessee is the first of five-straight games against ranked opponents for Texas where they could use a couple wins to boost that resume. Texas likes to play slow as they rank near the bottom of the nation in tempo analytics including average possession length.

The Longhorns like to share the ball as their leading scorer Timmy Allen averages just under 12 points per game on 53% shooting on the season. Texas does have one of the more experienced rosters in the country as their top six players are all either juniors or seniors.

Nothing is Free

The Volunteers are hopeful that this doesn’t come down to a free throw shooting contest because Tennessee is No. 284 in the country in free throw rate and No. 244 in making them.

Tennessee’s defense continues to propel the offense as they rank in the top-five nationally in adjusted defensive efficiency and steals per game, in addition to their top-ten rank in turnovers generated per game.

Freshman Kennedy Chandler leads the charge for Tennessee accumulating over two steals per game and leads the team in assists as well. Other quality role players for the Volunteers include guard Santiago Vescovi and leading rebounder Josiah-Jordan James.
