This will go down as a lost season in Bloomington, but it has been nice to watch the Hoosiers show some fight for Mike Woodson as his tenure comes to a close.

Indiana erased an 18-point hole against Michigan last weekend, then beat Michigan State as an 11.5-point ‘dog at Michigan State on Tuesday.

If we can get another focused effort out of the Hoosiers at home on Friday, we expect this game to stay under the total.

In that 18-point comeback against the Wolverines last weekend, Indiana’s defense held Michigan to 5-for-21 shooting from the three-point line (23.8-percent) with just 27 points allowed in the second half. In the win over Michigan State, the Hoosiers held the Spartans to a 4-for-23 night (17.4-percent) from beyond the arc.

Indiana’s defense has largely been fine all season, but the offense is a mess. In the 18-team Big Ten, the Hoosiers are No. 16 in effective field goal shooting, No. 16 in three-point shooting, No. 15 in two-point shooting and No. 16 in free throw shooting.

It’s a nightly guessing game as to what you’re going to get out of Indiana’s interior duo of Malik Reneau and Oumar Ballo.

Reneau committed five fouls in eight minutes against Purdue two weeks ago, then scored 19 off the bench against the Spartans on Tuesday.

Ballo only took three shots from the field against Wisconsin two weeks ago, then posted a 14-point, ten-rebound double-double against Michigan State.

UCLA vs Indiana Predictions

It’s anyone’s guess as to what kind of production you’re going to get from that duo on a nightly basis. UCLA does have experience playing against Ballo, who transferred to Bloomington after playing at Arizona in the Pac-12 the last three years.

Made three-pointers account for just 24.5-percent of Indiana’s points this season, which is bottom-30 in the country.

If you can’t shoot from the perimeter, that’s a recipe for disaster against UCLA’s defense. The Bruins’ defense is bottom-30 in the country in three-point attempts allowed. Mick Cronin’s team will let you shoot three-pointers until you can prove that you can make them, while shutting down the paint.

UCLA’s defense is No. 1 in the country in turnover rate, forcing a turnover on 24.0-percent of its opponents’ possessions. Indiana’s last three games have stayed under the total. The under is 3-1 in UCLA’s last four games.
