Baylor vs Oklahoma Predictions

  • Baylor Bears +5.5 vs Oklahoma Sooners
  • Total: 62.5 Points
  • Oklahoma is on a 17-game winning streak.
  • The Sooners have won the last seven meetings with Baylor.

The change to Caleb Williams at quarterback for the Sooners from the previous Spencer Rattler has seen a notable upswing in the Sooners offensive performance over the last few weeks. The Sooners were generating an average of just 29 points per game over their first four games of the season against FBS opposition, while they’ve now averaged 48.5 points per game over the last four starts since the change at QB.

Williams has a 73.1% pass completion rate along with a 14:1 touchdown to interception ratio also since coming on in the 2nd quarter against Texas with a 211.7 pass efficiency rating as well, the nation’s best over the last 30 days.

But it’s not just through the air where Oklahoma have found success this season. On the ground the Sooners have averaged 215.3 rushing yards per game this year, including 6.6 yards per carry, which ranks as the #1 rushing offense over the last 30 days as well on yards per carry metrics. That success could be resisted here though against a Baylor Bears run defense who have given up just 90.3 ypg on the ground over their last three starts, 11th in the country.

Baylor for their part put together three very good wins against some excellent teams in West Virginia, BYU and Texas, before coming unstuck against an excellent TCU team last week.

The Horned Frogs put up a monster 562 yards of offense in that game as they started to ease away from Baylor in the 4th quarter before a late Tyquan Thornton TD with just 5 minutes remaining got the Bears to within touching distance in that game.

However, the one takeaway from that game for Baylor was their own success running the ball, putting up 179 yards of offense on the ground against TCU and averaging 5 yards per rush as well, and that’s a gameplan the Bears might well go back to here.

Oklahoma have given up 151 yards per game on the ground over their last three starts, with the aforementioned TCU hanging 183 rushing yards against them just three weeks ago.

Both teams have excellent run games ahead of this Big 12 clash and may well opt to use them, especially Baylor, who look to rebound into a Big 12 Championship Game in just a few weeks time with a big win here against Oklahoma.

Overall, I see this game going Under the total on Saturday between Oklahoma and Baylor in what I expect to be a run heavy clash, with both offenses averaging 200+ yards on the ground this season respectively based off of home/road form.

Take the Under 63 on Saturday between Oklahoma and Baylor.

Baylor vs Oklahoma Analysis from The GoldSheet

Oklahoma remains on track to reach the national semifinals and comes off a well-timed bye since this final three-game stretch of games is grueling, finishing visits to Waco and Stillwater surrounding an Oct. 20 home date with the Cyclones. All three of those teams still have Big 12 title aspirations and own a combined record of 21-6. Although he didn’t get into the lineup until October 9, freshman QB Caleb Williams is a Heisman Trophy candidate and became just the third passer in OU history to toss six touchdown passes prior to the bye week, lighting up Texas Tech in accomplishing something that only Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray had previously pulled off in Norman. Baylor QB Gerry Bohanon comes off his worst game, finishing with a 61.2 QBR in the loss to TCU, which was sealed when he was picked off on the Bears’ final drive. Although Dave Aranda’s defense should help keep Baylor in the game since it figures to provide the toughest challenge Williams has seen to date, Bohanon can’t be trusted to bounce back. Look for fewer than 63 points in this key Big 12 showdown.

The change at quarterback seems to have kicked Oklahoma into overdrive, but the Sooners haven’t been impressive on the road this season. Can Caleb Williams and Co. flip that script on Saturday?
