Cincinnati College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?
Timing is everything. Cincy got noticed, and obtained an invitation to the Big 12.
I expected Scott Satterfield’s 1st season here to be challenging, and 3-9 was the result (UNDER season wins). How will his 2nd season play out?.
2024 Cincinnati NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:
In a surprise, my run game projections for ’23 were way too low. RB Kiner excelled, but he MUST stay healthy, as I don’t like the depth behind him.
Run threat Emory Jones is no longer here. The new QB is former Indiana signal-caller, Brendan Sorsby. He’s got some talent, and one solid WR to throw to. The OL returns all five full-time starters! I expect offensive improvement, but need to see how things develop under the 2nd year coordinator.
The move to the Big 12 was disastrous for the run D, which fell from 3.8-158 in ’22 all the way up to 5.75-193.5. Cincy may start six transfers on this side of the ball, but three of them are in the secondary. Nose tackle Corleone had a blood clot issue and his status has to be monitored. The defense produced just eight sacks in their nine conference games.
The new coordinator is from Iowa State (LB coach). His tutelage, plus all the transfers and their contributions will be a must watch as the season unfolds. Kicking is solid.
Cincinnati Football 2024 Predicted Total Wins Prediction
I show them 4-5, not counting 10/26 at Colorado, 11/9 hosting West Virginia, and the closing game vs. TCU.
To achieve bowl eligibility, Cincy must fix the run D, find a pass rush, and stay healthy offensively. This should be close, but Satterfield has a winning track record as a Head Coach and I wouldn’t be surprised if they get back to a bowl game.

2024 Cincinnati Football Schedule and Games to Watch
Game #2 is hosting revenge-minded Pittsburgh. The loser of this game may have a tough time reaching 6-6. It’s been since ’17 that Cincy last played at Miami Ohio.
Miami beat them in overtime last year (Cincy at home), so this is another game where we’ll see if progress has been made early in year #2. Games 5-6 are at Texas Tech (met once in 1968) and at UCF (usually a wild game, as evidenced by Cincy’s two-point home loss last year). The goal is 2-2, plus a sweep of home games vs. Towson, Houston and ASU.
That would mean 5-2, but does the talent level really match that projection? The next two games are at Colorado and home to West Virginia (lost at their place 42-21 in ’23). Since I expect losses in road games at Iowa St and Kansas St, a split of these games is critical. Cincy closes hosting TCU, and a bowl berth may be on the line.
Cincinnati 2024 Football Expert HANDICAPPING TIP
Here’s what I wrote in this spot a year ago. Cincy was never a rush vs. pick in ’22, but when the data was flat, and not in their favor, Cincy went 0-3 ATS. The same thing happened in ’23, as they were never a rush vs. pick, but went 0-2 when the data was flat. I’ll keep that same approach this year. I also like Cincy 11/9 hosting West Virginia if they beat Colorado the previous game.
