College Football Week 7 Betting Leans

Again, just to reiterate: As of Friday afternoon, these are games that I have not bet. I am simply sharing some of my notes that may, perhaps, assist in your handicapping as you break down the College Football Week 7 card.

Syracuse +13 vs Syracuse – I am expecting the Orange to compete here, but their offensive line is dinged-up and Clemson owns a scheduling edge.

North Carolina -7.5 vs Miami (Fla) – The Tar Heels might dominate Miami. The ‘Canes offense is now in the hands of inexperienced QB Van Dyke, but the line has gone through 7 and the value on UNC no longer exists.

Army +14 at Wisconsin – This is really a “nothing” game for Wisconsin, which points me to Army. The matchup is tough for the Cadets, though, as the Badgers are impossible to run on.

Oklahoma -13.5 vs TCU – The Sooners might be unstoppable with Williams now at QB. The worry is for a potential letdown off the great comeback vs. Texas, and line has also moved 1.5 points from the opener up to -13.5.

Tennessee +2.5 vs Ole Miss – The surging Volunteers might be catching Ole Miss at the right time. I ultimately passed in what should be an offensive highlight film game.

Kansas State +6.5 vs Iowa State – The Wildcats have a real chance against Iowa State, but the Cyclones are dominating the stats even in their losses. The momentum is also against K-State, and that kept me off the home ‘dog.

UTEP +7 vs Louisiana Tech – Louisiana Tech is the superior team, but the Miners are on a roll at 5-1 and have been surprisingly very tough vs. the run. But in the end, I can’t fire on a team that has done that good work against a very weak schedule.

Washington State +1.5 vs Stanford – I just didn’t get the number I wanted. The Cougars at +3 would have made my card, but not at +1.5.

College Football Week 7 Injury Notes from The GoldSheet

  • Akron QB Kato Nelson was injured against Bowling Green and had to be replaced by freshman Zach Gibson, who led the Zips to a second half comeback en route to a 35-20 victory.
  • Arkansas State QB James Blackman didn’t play in the second half against Coastal Carolina on Thursday, leaving backup Layne Hatcher to finish the contest.
  • Florida State fifth-year senior offensive lineman Devontay Love-Taylor was seen on crutches with a walking boot after last week’s game against North Carolina. Love-Taylor has made over 25 starts in his career at Florida State and Florida International.
  • Georgia QB JT Daniels and WR Jermaine Burton each missed last week’s game against Auburn.
  • TCU QB Max Duggan, WR Quentin Johnston and RB Zach Evans are all questionable for Saturday’s game against undefeated Oklahoma.
  • Indiana QB Michael Penix Jr. is expected to be out for a few weeks, handing the reins to redshirt sophomore Jack Tuttle.
  • LSU leading WR Kayshon Boutte will miss the rest of the season.
  • Maryland has been battling a cluster injury in their secondary with Jakorian Bennett, Kenny Bennett and Deonte Banks all missing time this season.
  • Nevada WR Romeo Doubs (First team All-Mountain West last year) was held out last week and is listed as questionable for this week’s game against Hawaii.
  • Oregon RB CJ Verdell will miss the rest of the season.
  • Rutgers QB Noah Vedral was knocked out of last week’s game against Michigan State, but he is expected to return.
  • Penn State QB Sean Clifford was knocked out of last week’s game against Iowa, and his status is unknown.
  • San Jose State QB Nick Starkel did not play in the Spartans’ loss to Colorado State.
  • Wake Forest RB Christian Beal-Smith did not finish last week’s game against Syracuse.
