NCAAF Week 9 Betting Leans
Again, just to reiterate: As of Friday afternoon, these are games that I have not bet. I am simply sharing some of my notes that may, perhaps, assist in your handicapping as you break down the NCAAF Week 9 card:
Maryland -5 vs Indiana – The Hoosiers have faced an extraordinarily tough schedule and Indiana appears to be pretty worn down, in addition to having QB injury issues. Maryland started 4-0 but hasn’t won since. The Terrapins are stepping back down in class following the losses to Iowa, Ohio State and Minnesota. Maryland looks like the right side here but the line did rise and I’m not wild about laying points with a team that is -603 net yards the last three games.
Rutgers -1.5 at Illinois – The Illini are fresh off the 9OT shocker at Penn State and could be emotionally spent here. Rutgers is in need of a win to maintain bowl hopes and the Scarlet Knights are off a bye. Scheduling dynamics clearly favor the road team but I wanted +1 in this game. While -1.5 means Rutgers likely covers with a win, I’m just not convinced their offense is trustworthy enough and decided to leave this one in the added opinion column.
Hawaii +5.5 at Utah State – I see Hawaii as the better team and was enthused about grabbing points with their potent rushing attack against a porous Aggies rush defense. But with RB Hunter as well as QB Cordiero both still listed as questionable, the risk factor here becomes tangible. Hawaii is not one of the schools where I have good access to info and the truth is I don’t know if the two key players will be in action.
Wyoming +3 at San Jose State – The Spartans were fortunate to escape Las Vegas with a win last week and I have Wyoming as the slightly better team. But the Cowboys are generating no offense at all and I don’t know that the change at QB will have the desired results. It’s a game I actually expect the visitors to win but how do the Cowboys catch up if they fall behind early?
Colorado State +2.5 vs Boise State – This is a very winnable game for Colorado State. I have the Rams offering value at the current tag. The negatives are the scheduling with Boise off the bye week, and the potential hangover for the Rams after the end-of-game clock management fiasco last week. But if this climbs to Boise -3, I might revisit and move the Rams from lean to play.
