Florida State College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?
According to the NCAA, 13-0 and an exceptional defense wasn’t good enough. The minute QB Travis got hurt, the NCAA looked the other way, opting for the incessant lobbying done by Alabama’s Nick Saban.
20 players opted out of their relatively prestigious bowl game, and the results were disastrous. FSU remains at the top of the ACC, but fans and school administrators are worried about how much clout the ACC itself carries moving forward. Welcome to politics 101.
2024 Florida State NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:
FSU took massive hits to their starting roster, but I have good news.
1st, the Seminoles reloaded nicely through the portal, especially defensively. 2nd, the ENTIRE staff returns. There are a couple of concerns. QB Ulagalelei is solid, but not exceptional.
The scheme at OSU was to his benefit. The WR unit is clearly weaker. The front seven lost several players to the NFL. What I like is the OL, and the kicking game. I’ll be tracking each of the five portal additions from Alabama.

FSU WILL get compassion from the playoff selection committee after they caved in last year because of ESPN and more likely, the Nick Saban factor.
10-2, even without an ACC title puts them in. If there are no upsets, 10-2 is squarely in play, and even 11-1 is in play. Watch the stat sheet for any anomalies, especially concerning the turnover ratio. Thanks to their kicking game, I have FSU in the 12-team playoff picture.

2024 Florida State Football Schedule and Games to Watch
FSU will be tested by the good (and varied) offenses of Georgia Tech and Memphis, but should have enough offense and special team talent to hit 4-0 prior to going to SMU, and likely 5-0 before hosting Clemson.
Here are the tough games remaining on the schedule: Clemson, who seeks revenge and has played well at FSU.
Miami, a road game vs. a team deep in talent that somehow keeps coming up a bit short. Notre Dame, another road game vs. a defense that can likely stifle FSU’s pass game. FSU’s offense will need to deliver in that one. Florida, likely in a do or die season for that staff, loaded with talent but facing a brutal schedule.
There’s a lot to like about FSU’s roster, but what’s the ceiling at QB, and what will be his turnover ratio (QB Travis had but two picks in ’23)?
