Florida State Football Preview 2023: FSU Picks for Betting

2022 was supposed to be FSU’s breakout season.  After a trio of ACC losses, the Seminole’s delivered, with six straight wins.  2023 expectations are through the roof.  With Divisional play dropped, FSU will be expected to reach the ACC title game this December.

FSU Football Predictions: AREAS TO WATCH

The OL is a top five NCAA unit.  The QB is above average, and two of the three RB’s return from a unit that averaged a stout 5.7-222 yards per game. 

In other good news, six of the top seven tacklers return.  The defensive numbers in 2022 were decent, but not top 15 decent.  Maybe that gets better now, and I’ll be checking the early results.  There’s competition at PK, which is a good thing.

Florida State 2023 Predictions, FSU Schedule:

FSU barely hung on to beat a raw LSU team in 2022.  LSU is much more seasoned, and this game (in Orlando) should be a good one (Sunday Night opener). 

Expectations are that FSU will defeat BC at their place, but that game is right before they stay on the road to face Clemson, so they better be focused.  There’s a well-placed bye week after Clemson, so no letdown should exist, especially knowing that even if they lose that game, 7-1 likely gets them into the ACC title game. 

While Syracuse and Duke are decent teams, both must come to Tallahassee.  FSU has lost two straight at Wake, and also lost 31-21 hosting Wake last year.  Again, FSU will have to stay on the road after that to face a dangerous Pitt team. 

Pitt thrives in the role of home underdog, so these two games may only result in a split, even if FSU’s squad this year looks to be their best in quite some time.  Next up is the rivalry game hosting Miami.  FSU does get the schedule edge and “should” win.  FSU as usual will close the year with Florida, with the game at their place.  I expect the Gators to be a dangerous running team, but if all goes well, FSU’s offense will have the edge over Florida’s defense.

Florida State Football Bottom Line:

FSU finally showed signs of regaining past glory with their 2^nd half of the season win streak, and their Power Number ended up in the top 15, proving that it wasn’t an accident. 

10-2, and an ACC title game berth is clearly the goal.  It’s attainable if the defense shows a bit more improvement and the kicking game does not let them down.  I’ll be charting the run defense early and often.  Can this squad live up to renewed top ten expectations?  My ACC schedule grid says caution may be needed. 

Florida State Football HANDICAPPING TIP:

FSU is not good when their opponent is a rush pick (14-6 ATS lately, 1-0 in 2022).  Given the early schedule, I’ll back them as a rush pick hosting VT and Syracuse.  My 1^st look will be dog only 11/4 at Pitt.
