The health of Utah QB Cam Rising has been kept under wraps during the offseason as he recovers from a knee injury that he suffered during the Utes’ Rose Bowl loss to Penn State.

He is listed as the team’s starting quarterback on the depth chart, but as of Monday, he still hasn’t been a full participant in practice. Utes’ head coach Kyle Whittingham has commented that he will likely wait until kickoff before fully committing to his starter, and he’s probably not joking.

Even if Rising does suit up and get the nod, how much will he be able to run? He’s rushed for 964 yards and 12 touchdowns over the last two seasons.

If he’s unable to escape the pocket and create plays with his legs, how effective will he be? Utah football returns 16 starters from a team that has won back-to-back Pac-12 Championships and has made back-to-back Rose Bowls (losing both).

The opposite is true in Gainesville where Billy Napier is still rebuilding his roster. The Gators only return 11 starters, and with a regular season win total set at 5.5, reaching bowl eligibility would be an accomplishment this season.

Napier does have a strong pedigree as an underdog. Florida pulled off a mild upset as a 2.5-point home underdog in this matchup last season.
