Georgia College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?

Rinse and repeat.  This section shouldn’t take long to write.  Georgia is good, period!  They belonged in the final four a year ago, with only a neutral field 27-24 loss in the SEC title game.  They appear to be the team to beat in the SEC.  

2024 Georgia NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:

Is it possible for Georgia to be even better offensively this season?  They lost two RB’s, but transfer RB Etienne is more than solid.  They lost stud TE Bowers, but both returning TE Delp, and Stanford transfer TE Yurosek could have NFL aspirations. 

They lose two OL to the NFL but return four players with 10 or more starts and shouldn’t miss a beat.  It’s senior city along the DL, which is loaded.  The back seven may be down a bit (several to the NFL) but the new guys are of course highly touted. 

The kicking game is in good hands, but they did lose their special team coordinator, who resigned to pursue a job outside of football for mental health and drug addiction reasons (I wish him the best).

11-1, with 10-2 my next guess.  Great as they are, I don’t think they run the table.  A win at Texas likely ensures a berth into the SEC title game.  10-2 in the SEC EASILY gets them into the 12-team playoffs.  Georgia wants more.

2024 Georgia Football Schedule and Games to Watch

Here are the key games on Georgia’s schedule.  8/31 in Atlanta vs. Clemson.  This will be a great game, likely a defensive one.  9/14 at Kentucky. 

They’ve fared well in the series, and luckily, their next game, AT Alabama, is after a week off.  Assuming no letdown hosting Auburn, games 7-10 are at Texas, the neutral site game vs. Florida (both off rest), at Mississippi, and home to host Tennessee.  This is not an easy schedule, but Georgia is not an ordinary team.

Spread inflate happens with public teams like Georgia, and their long-term home favorite spread record is well under 50%, and in a surprise to some, stands at about 40% under Kirby Smart, even with their supreme dominance.  I usually do not get involved much with teams like this (1-1 ATS past two seasons).
