Georgia Tech College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?
Georgia Tech pulled an amazing six outright upsets in 2023, and closed the season with a 30-17 bowl victory.
As the rare team these days with a returning QB, maybe ‘24 will be even better? Let’s look at what’s possible this upcoming season.
2024 Georgia Tech NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:
2nd year coordinator Buster Faulkner was certainly part of the reason they improved points scored from 17 to 31, and it’s rush #’s from 3.95-138 to 5.45-199 (corrected for sacks). In addition, transfer QB Haynes King hit close to 62%, with 27 TD’s. He will need to cut down on his interceptions (16). Tech comes into ’24 with no offensive issues.
The defense is another story. They allowed 5.65-227 on the ground, and a modest 62% through the air. They allowed 31 points or more seven times. They bring in a new defensive coordinator who looks like an upgrade.
With virtually all players gone who sacked opposing QB’s a year ago, that’s his 1st order of business. On “coach speak” they are looking to play better vs. the run, but that must be charted, as the personnel on hand isn’t dynamic. Tech was only favored three times last season, including once at -21 in a double-digit loss to Bowling Green.
They went 1-2 in those games overall, giving up 98 points, allowing 119-697 on the ground, and 53-78 through the air. This is completely unacceptable. Like many teams in the ACC, the kicking game is solid.
Georgia Tech Football 2024 Predicted Total Wins Prediction
This team IS better, and there’s hope with the new defensive coordinator, but once again they figure to be an underdog as many as eight or nine games.
Experience could get them some early wins, which might be essential to returning to a bowl game. I see 6-6 as a ceiling, with 5-7 in play as well. I won’t underestimate this team, but the defense has to improve.

2024 Georgia Tech Football Schedule and Games to Watch
Georgia Tech opens facing FSU in Dublin, Ireland. Game #3 is at Syracuse. There are reasons to worry about this game, but they will be facing a new coaching staff.
The goal is 2-1 in games at Louisville (close loss last year, Tech went a nice 3-2 on the road in ’23), home to Duke (Tech rested, good setup), and at North Carlina (revenge game for the Tar Heels). Both defenses will need to be vetted prior to that game.
As noted above, Georgia Tech has been an amazing underdog of late, but with Notre Dame having no scheduling issues, that home game still could be a loss. The rest of the schedule is no cakewalk. Tech has won the last four times at Virginia Tech.
They’ve had mixed results hosting Miami. I have mixed indicators in their game hosting NC State. The finale is at powerful Georgia.
