Kansas State vs Kansas Betting Analysis

After a red-hot start to the season, the Jayhakws come back down to earth in recent weeks but an upset win in the Sunflower Showdown would put a cherry on this successful season.

Kansas State will no doubt be full of confidence after registering back-to-back victories against Baylor and West Virginia over the last two weeks. Another win here over their in-state rival would put the Wildcats in the Big XII Championship Game against TCU next week.

Kansas actually owns the series advantage historically over Kansas State, posting a 65-49-5 record over the Wildcats in their series history. However, that success was largely well over a half-century ago now and Kansas State has dominated this series over the last few decades, going 25-4 against Kansas since 1993.

Jayhawks Still Getting It Done Offensively

Only Ohio State and USC have averaged more yards per play on offense than the Kansas Jayhawks have this season (7.2). Kansas also ranks top-ten nationally in plays of 60 yards or greater this season.

With Kansas posting five games of 500+ yards already this year, that number sits just one shy of their entire 500+ yard single-game totals across 45 games in the prior four seasons between 2018-2021.

Wildcats Continue To Employ Fierce Defense

Since the switch to a 3-3-5 setup before the start of last season, the Kansas State Wildcats have been lights-out defensively, allowing an average of just 20.0 points per game to opponents over that time frame which is good for the 16th-lowest total in the entire country.

The Wildcats also kept Baylor from scoring a single touchdown two weeks ago in Waco, the fourth time this year that’s occurred and their best defensive mark in that area since 2002.

Kansas State vs Kansas Prediction

Our numbers make Kansas State the significant favorite in this one and even at the current odds of -11.5 on the Wildcats, we expect them to win this one by at least two touchdowns on Saturday and like the value on them.

The Wildcats hung almost 300 yards of offense through the air last week against the Mountaineers in what was their fourth 40+ point game of the season so far.

Kansas has not shown the ability to stop anyone this season, ranking 127th in the country in total opponent yards allowed after the Jayhawks’ defense gave up 539 yards against Texas last week.

On top of that, their run defense has given up 267.3 yards per game over their last three starts, with only Georgia Southern, South Florida and Florida International giving up more total yards than them in that area. It’s difficult to see where exactly the Jayhawks stop Kansas State in this one.

The Wildcats have covered seven of the last ten meetings in Manhattan and we expect another dominant win and cover at home here on Saturday also. Take Kansas State -12 on Saturday to win and cover at home against Kansas over in this Big 12 finale.
