Kentucky has been to seven straight bowl games, as consistency has been achieved. It’s a good thing when 7-5 feels like a letdown for this program. Don’t sleep on this team for ’23.

Kentucky Football Predictions: AREAS TO WATCH

Count me as one of the few who wasn’t a big fan of Will Levis. Like with the infamous Christian Hackenberg (PSU), we’ll find out if all the sacks allowed (45) were a function of a subpar OL or their former QB, who to his credit was a high percentage passer.

Devin Leary himself was hurt last year and failed to meet high expectations at North Carolina State. He’s here now, with coordinator Liam Coen, who returns to Kentucky after spending one year in the NFL.

I expect improved passing numbers, and the OL returns four starters. I’m actually bumping the run numbers up despite the loss of their far and away #1 back.

Former Vanderbilt RB Ray Davis (1,042 yards) is a must watch. My ’22 defensive projections were exactly on target.

With only modest talent returning, I’m keeping the numbers the same for ’23. Kentucky’s leading sacker had just three last year. Season to season sack numbers have been erratic. Improvement in this area is a must.

Kentucky Football 2023 Predictions, Kentucky Schedule:

Ball State, Eastern Kentucky and Akron should equate to the usual garbage SEC 3-0 start. Figuring out how good they are means getting deeper into the rotation and the numbers.

With games at Vanderbilt (tossup there lately) and home to Florida (on a two-game win streak), 5-0 is possible. The three games after Georgia are home to Missouri and Tennessee, and at Mississippi State.

The goal is 2-1 here, and 7-2 before a rare game hosting Alabama. The visitor has been decent in games vs. South Carolina (road game). Kentucky closes at Louisville, where they’ve had success.

Kentucky Football Bottom Line:

8-4 sounds about right, especially if the sack ratio moves to the positive side, and QB Leary regains his form with the return of Kentucky’s old coordinator. This is not an easy schedule, but the pacing is decent. 7-5 would not be all that bad.
