Louisville College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?
Louisville surprised me by going 10-4, and 10-2 in the regular season. What’s the ceiling for ‘24?
2024 Louisville NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:
My projected #’s for Louisville were in the ballpark, but slightly lower than what was achieved.
Still, the Cardinals achieved a number of close victories, and at 1st glance, there could be a bit of regression? I’m predicting another good run offense, but still below last year’s 5.1 per carry (4.65). The OL might need some time to mesh.
Defensively, a number of pass rushers return, making them dangerous when facing average or worse OL’s.
In addition, I like the talent in the secondary. Louisville didn’t sit back in the offseason, with a reported 26 transfers brought in, of which nine of them are slated to start. This looks like a bit of an upgrade overall, but will be one area that I will chart early and often.

Somewhere around 8-4? There’s too much talent on this team to slide from last year’s surprisingly smooth season.
Still, I’m not a massive Jeff Brohm fan, and I can see them slipping once or twice when favored this year, just like what happened a year ago. I don’t have many keys to watch here, but the schedule is tricky in some spots.

2024 Louisville Football Schedule and Games to Watch
If Louisville holds serve vs. Georgia Tech, then they start 3-0. I think they lose at Notre Dame (Irish revenge), but can get to 5-1 if they win hosting SMU and win at Virginia.
Part of me feels like they will be vulnerable (all the close games a year ago), but the talent level warrants them being the favorite in all of the games except Notre Dame. Miami is always an interesting team. Loaded with talent, they still can lose at any time (three times when favored in each of the past three seasons).
The game at Boston College is dangerous, as it falls between Miami and (at) Clemson. Louisville makes one long road trip this year (Stanford), but does so after a week of rest. I’ll precheck Stanford’s defense and Louisville’s pass defense.
Louisville closes hosting Pittsburgh (turnover-infested loss at their place in ’23) and at rival Kentucky, where they hope snap the string of poor performances vs. the Wildcats.
Louisville 2024 Football Expert HANDICAPPING TIP
I didn’t expect 10 wins last season, but writing these previews DOES matter, as I was 5-0 ATS in their games, including 4-0 fading them.
If the stat sheet holds up then I suspect I’ll recommend more plays ON them in ’24, but the game at Boston College on 10/25 might be a play against possibility.
