Miami vs Virginia Tech Predictions

  • Miami Hurricanes -8 vs Virginia Tech Hokies
  • Total: 56 Points
  • Virginia Tech is 2-8 against the spread in the Hokies’ last ten road games, while Miami is 2-8 against the spread in their last ten home games.
  • The under is 5-0 in Virginia Tech’s last five games as an underdog.

The resurgent Miami Hurricanes opened as 6-point home favorites this past Sunday. However, Circa of Las Vegas opened the Canes as 6-point home chalk and not three minutes later were moving the Canes to flat-7 home chalk, which held serve till the close of business this past Sunday night.

There was some back-and-forth at the bookmakers’ counters on Monday morning, but at the time this game preview went to press, the Hurricanes had moved to a 7-point favorite to find not a single sharp group dig in for any buyback. At the time his game preview went to press, there were not only zero buybacks on the Hokies, but the number has climbed to Miami as an 8-point favorite. The total in this ACC event opened at 56.5 and early Sunday morning moved to 55.5, where it has stayed since.

The Miami Hurricanes are back in South Florida for a conference tilt against ACC rival Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech (5-5, 3rd in ACC – Coastal) visits Miami (5-5, 3rd in ACC – Coastal) on Saturday, November 20, 2021, for an as important prize, maybe more important than a January 6 Holiday Bowl invitation. The Canes and Hokies are playing for bowl eligibility on Saturday night. The winner on Saturday night becomes bowl eligible, while the loser will need to try try again.

The Hurricanes are 8-point home favorites for Saturday’s league affair. You can capture all of the latest money moves for every college football Saturday event at the WagerTalk live odds board. The Canes aim to look forward, not back. Miami suffered a damaging loss to Florida State on Saturday. Virginia Tech efficiently handled Duke 48-17 at Lane Stadium.

Miami Hurricanes

Saturday’s late fourth-quarter collapse by Miami resulted in a bad loss for the Canes. The failure to earn a win versus the Noles puts Miami in a near must-win. The loser between these two programs will find the other playing for their holiday bowl lives in next week’s regular-season finale. Miami closes the regular season at Duke, and VT plays at Virginia next weekend.

Miami has the 39th best scoring offense in college football, averaging 32.4 points per game. However, the Hurricanes offense, which has been great when they value possessions and are focused on the task at hand, was neither on Saturday. The Hurricanes performance was the worst since the season opener against Alabama.

Virginia Tech Hokies

What school of thought do you live in or believe is real when a college head coach is dismissed during the regular season? Fired one-win short of being bowl eligible? The two storylines in this game? Justin Fuente was fired by Virginia Tech. Second, Miami firing their athletics director on Monday night (meaning that Manny Diaz is no longer under the protection of the old regime), placing Hurricanes head coach Manny Diaz in the line of fire that could and likely will exist if he loses this home tilt against an interim head coach for VT.

Virginia Tech has been the conductor of a Six Flags roller coaster this season. The offense has been inconsistent, and the defense has allowed 30 points per game since losing to Notre Dame, the restart of the Hokies season schedule following the team’s bye weekend.

Virginia Tech is 96th in offensive efficiency averaging 24.3 PPG. Miami is 98th in scoring defense, allowing 30.5 PPG.

This College Saturday ACC contest isn’t about Virginia Tech. It isn’t about Justin Fuente. It doesn’t involve anything outside of making football decisions for current Canes’ head coach Manny Diaz. Instead, this game is about the players. How both sides play will reflect for years to come who they are and what they are about.

The 8-point handicap that Miami is issuing the Hokies is too much to back. The Hurricanes have played six consecutive games decided by four points or less. In truth, five of six games were three-points or fewer margins of victories or losses.

The logical position to take in this Saturday’s winner-go bowling event in South Florida is jumping on the Hokies back and taking the touchdown plus two-point conversion.

Miami vs Virginia Tech Analysis from The GoldSheet

So much for thinking that Justin Fuente needed a couple of wins to close the season to save his job. AD Whit Babcock hit the eject button on Tuesday morning, with JD Price serving as interim the rest of this season. No time for Manny Diaz to feel comfy on the ‘Canes side, either, after Miami blew a late lead at Florida State to end its recent three-game win streak achieved in hair-raising fashion. We suspect, however, this one won’t be as dramatic, as ‘Cane frosh QB Tyler Van Dyke coolly led Miami back from an early 17-0 deficit at Tallahassee and posted his fourth straight 300+ passing game. And with 19 touchdown passes in barely half-a-season’s worth of starts, Van Dyke has the sorts of numbers that counterpart Braxton Burmeister can only dream. Keep in mind, too, that was once considered a signature win for Fuente this season over Mack Brown’s Tar Heels on opening night has hardly proven a landmark achievement with UNC hovering near .500.
