Michigan vs Purdue Betting Analysis
After going down early in last week’s game against Ohio State, Jim Harbaugh’s crew came back to dominate the second half of that game, out-scoring the Buckeyes 28-3 after halftime.
Purdue has quietly put together a very solid season in West Lafayette. The Boilermakers have won seven of their last nine games, and they’ve covered the spread in four of their six games away from home this season.
Michigan holds a sizeable 45-14 series advantage over Purdue with the Boilermakers’ last victory in this series coming via a 38-36 win in Ann Arbor back in 2009.
Boilermakers Tough On Defense
Purdue has given up just 16.3 points per game over its last three starts as the Boilermakers’ defense has continued to impress this season.
Purdue ranks top-25 in the country this year on limiting opponents’ explosive plays. Opponents are only reaching Purdue’s red zone 2.9 times per game, which is tied for 16th-best in the country.
Aidan O’Connell and the Boilermakers’ offense generated a lot of the headlines earlier this season, but it’s been Purdue’s defense that has carried the team over the last month and that unit should provide a stiff test for the Wolverines’ offense.
Bulldozer Ground Game For Wolverines
If you blinked while Michigan was on offense last week, there’s a chance you missed a 70-yard touchdown run. The Wolverines averaged 7.2 yards per carry against the Buckeyes last week. Donovan Edwards closed the fourth quarter with touchdown runs of 75 yards and 85 yards.
That’s been a fairly consistent story for the Wolverines all season as they rank No. 3 in the country in yards per rush attempt and No. 3 in rushing touchdowns.
Michigan vs Purdue Prediction
Purdue’s defense has shown its ability to limit passing attacks this season, and while Michigan may have racked up 45 points in last week’s game against Ohio State, that hasn’t been their usual routine this year as they’ve eclipsed the 40-point mark in just three of their last nine games overall.
Michigan will very likely look to do what they’ve been doing to great success all year, namely trying to run the ball down Purdue’s throat. However, they’ll find a Purdue run defense on Saturday that ranks top-20 in the country in rushing first downs allowed.
The under has cashed in nine of Michigan’s last 13 games and we expect another low-scoring contest here on Saturday also in the Big Ten Championship Game between Purdue and Michigan.
Prediction: Under 51.5 Points Scored
