It’s time! Marcus Freeman made his mark on defense, but the offense has steadily improved, and might be even better in ’24. Don’t sleep on this team making noise this season.
2024 Notre Dame NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:
If he can stay healthy, Riley Leonard is a splash get at QB. The run game is good, but they will miss Estime’s 18 rush TD’s. That’s where Leonard can help.
The new coordinator is from LSU, and he’ll add a new component to the team. He worked with dual threat Heisman winner Daniels a year ago. The worry is along the OL, with no junior or senior starters.
They allowed 16 starts a year ago, and the unit is down after losing 1st and 2nd round draft choices. Watch pass protection closely. Notre Dame totaled 31 defensive sacks last year, but lacked a true impact guy (leader had four sacks). I’d like to see that number rise.
Overall, I expect similar numbers to ’23, meaning an acceptable run defense and a solid pass defense. The new PK was 23-25 at South Carolina.

Notre Dame Football 2024 Predicted Total Wins Prediction
10-2, with 11-1 in play. Barring an upset, I expect the Irish to host a game (5th through 8th seed) in the expanded playoff format. Keep Riley Leonard healthy, and this could be a special season.

2024 Notre Dame Football Schedule and Games to Watch
The ’24 schedule is easier, and my 1st question to the staff would be how will you guard against complacency? The key games are as follows: 8/31 at Texas A&M: That team has loads of talent.
9/14 at Purdue: Luckily for the Irish, they have no schedule traps here, or later, when they face a talented Georgia Tech team in Atlanta. 9/28 hosting Louisville: The focus should be fine after the Irish lost 33-20 at their place a year ago.
11/9 vs. Florida St: This is a giant test for their offense against one of the better NCAA defenses. The finale, 11/30 at USC: The home team has won nine of the last ten. All eyes will be on the USC defense in ’24, which must improve to take the load off their efficient offense.
Notre Dame 2024 Football Expert HANDICAPPING TIP
My 80% eight year spread run ended in 2019, and I’m 10-11 the last five years (3-3 with the new staff, plus two best bet bowl wins). At 1st glance, I don’t see any obvious play on or against spots, given the schedule layout.
