This is the first meeting between the Irish and Chippewas. Notre Dame is 9-0 straight-up against MAC opponents, but the Irish did get a scare from Toledo two years ago.

This will be Central Michigan’s second trip to the Power Five after opening the season with a 31-7 loss at Michigan State.

The final score in that one is a little deceiving, since it was 17-7 entering the fourth quarter. The Chippewas needed a last-second field goal to get past FCS-level New Hampshire last week, but don’t downgrade the Chips too much for that performance.

New Hampshire is a top-15 program at the FCS level. Central Michigan was likely caught looking ahead to Notre Dame last week, and now their only hope is that the Irish get caught looking ahead to next week.

Sam Hartman and Co. will square off with Ohio State next week, so don’t expect Marcus Freeman to have the playbook very deep in the second half of this one.

The Fighting Irish were the beneficiary of some weather issues last week at NC State. Notre Dame scored an 80-yard touchdown run on its first play out of the locker room after a lengthy delay in Raleigh.

The Wolfpack had four more first downs than the Fighting Irish, but costly turnovers turned the game in Notre Dame’s favor.
