Ohio State vs Michigan Prediction: The Preview for Betting

Ohio State and Michigan play in yet another huge matchup that will decide who will be playing in Indianapolis on December 3rd for the Big 10 Championship.  Michigan escaped an upset bid from a plucky Illinois team this weekend and enters as a moderate underdog vs Ohio State.

Ohio State had moved all the way up to a 9 point favorite, but that line seems to be on a downtrend as bettors pour it in on Michigan.  Could very well pop back up.

WagerTalk is weighing in early with a Ohio State vs Michigan prediction.  WagerTalk content contributor Kyle Kargel gives his Ohio State vs Michigan betting preview kicking off next Saturday at noon ET.

Ohio State vs Michigan Prediction:  Game of The Year. The Analysis:

In what could arguably be the biggest college football game of the regular season, Michigan heads south to Columbus taking on the Buckeyes in their annual massive game. Good luck getting Ohio State vs Michigan tickets!

Some games have been bigger than others but this is shaping up to be the biggest since 2006 when #1 Ohio State beat #2 Michigan. Michigan vs Ohio State is always going to be a huge backyard brawl, but the 2022 version is unreal.

These two also had a memorable showdown in 2016 when #2 Ohio State beat #3 Michigan 30-27 in 2 OT. Michigan hasn’t won in Columbus since 2000. Will they break that trend this season? Let’s dive in.

Ohio State vs Michigan Prediction: Michigan IS Running Wild On Offense

Michigan’s offense has been powered by their run game led by Blake Corum rushing for 1,349 yards already this season averaging 5.9 ypc charging near the top of the Heisman Trophy race.

As a team, the Wolverines average 5.6 ypc. J.J. McCarthy has stepped up as the team’s starter after him and Cade McNamara split duties at quarterback during the team’s light non-conference schedule.
McCarthy has compiled 1,744 passing yards 14 touchdowns and only two interceptions while completing a whopping 69% of his passes.

McCarthy Can’t Miss In the Air or on The Ground

He’s also added 195 yards and three touchdowns rushing. The Wolverines defense figured to take some sort of step back losing so much talent in the off-season but the exact opposite has happened with the team.

They only allow 11 points, 160 pass yards and 72 rush yards per game o the season.
Senior Mike Morris has stepped up on the defensive line totaling seven sacks already this season. Junior Colson and Michael Barrett have also done a great job at stopping the run.

Wide receiver turned defensive back Mike Sainristil has been a ray of sunshine for the Wolverines secondary with 36 tackles, two sacks and five passes defended on the season.

Ohio State Takes Top Off Opposing Defenses

The Buckeyes will without a doubt be Michigan’s toughest test of the season matching or beating them in critical team metrics. The Buckeyes lead the Wolverines in points per game, passing yards per game and total yards per game.

Heisman frontrunner C.J. Stroud has been great this season throwing for 2,750 yards so far this season adding 34 touchdowns and only four interceptions.

The Buckeyes Split Running Duty Effectively

Ohio State has split work on the ground with Miyan Williams and TreVeyon Henderson who have both been productive.

Williams has rushed for 783 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns while Henderson has 552 yards rushing adding six touchdowns.

Ohio State has the edge at wide receiver with Marvin Harrison Jr. gaining 969 reception yards and 11 touchdowns as well as Emeka Egbuka who has 832 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.

Ohio State vs Michigan Prediction: The Over/Under

With how dynamic both of these offenses are and given the recent history of this rivalry, I have to go with over 57.5 as WagerTalk’s Ohio State vs Michigan Prediction.

Both offenses have a Heisman Trophy worthy candidate, both score over 41 per game and while both defenses are solid this season, both will face the strongest offense they’ve seen all season.

Expect a shoot-out and an entertaining game.
