Oklahoma College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?
SEC? I grew up when the Sooners were a Big Eight fixture. This one puzzles me, despite the increased cash flow.
2024 Oklahoma NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:
The parade of solid QB’s will be challenged now, as touted, but unproven Jackson Arnold is the new guy. I expect a spike in turnovers, and each college turnover is worth 3.75 points.
A solid lead RB is here, along with a highly rated freshman (Tatum) that I will be charting. The OL was decimated, and nothing seems to be left. The OG’s have much promise, with the center having plenty of experience at SMU.
The RT is raw, with the LT coming from Florida/USC (20 starts). I expect some growing pains, especially blocking for a raw QB. The defensive #’s were fine last year, although points allowed (26.6) in the Big 12 showed up a bit high.
There’s a potential coordinator upgrade, even though the new guys (Co-DC’s) are young. The top six tacklers return. The switch to the SEC could impact some of the stats. The senior PK was a bit erratic.
Oklahoma Football 2024 Predicted Total Wins Prediction
8-4 as a ceiling, and 7-5 the more likely result? I play season win totals close to when they come out, because lines move quickly now. I went UNDER 7.5, which after doing this write-up is one that could be in danger.
The SEC road schedule (plus Texas) looks 1-4 to me, with a 2-3 ceiling. They could split home games vs. Tennessee/Alabama to reach 8-4, but I wonder if the OL will hold them back. Watch QB play closely.

2024 Oklahoma Football Schedule and Games to Watch
There’s no issue outside the SEC, but the conference schedule won’t be easy. The game at Auburn (1st road game, 1st SEC game) will test this offense.
Texas has revenge next, and “should” get it. Going to a rested Mississippi team won’t be easy. Missouri, a former Big 8 and 12 rival, also will be rested, and at home. Closing games are home to Alabama (critical precheck of that staff in road games) and at LSU, which should be highly interesting.
Oklahoma Sooners 2024 Football Expert HANDICAPPING TIP
I’m leaning Tennessee’s way (as a dog) on 9/21, and hope to have Auburn on 9/28. I’ll need to pivot if the stat sheet/QB play says so, but the only current play on game I have is possibly 11/23 hosting Alabama.
If that game goes well, or is highly emotional at the end, I might pivot back to a fade at LSU in the season finale.
SPECIAL NOTE: I look for lower scoring games here (UNDERS) due to: a) loss of a really good QB, b) no OL continuity, c) no Ted Roof as the DC, d) more experience on the defensive side of the ball, and e) the SEC could be a more defensive-minded league.
