Oregon Football Betting Preview | Power Ratings and Projections
While the other three schools making the Pac-12 to Big Ten move go through a period of transition, the 2024 Oregon football squad looks poised to immediately compete for a conference crown. The Ducks have made some major moves in recruiting and the transfer portal to challenge the big boys of the Big Ten this year.

We project Oregon to be favored in every regular season game. Our power ratings have the Ducks favored by at least two touchdowns in ten of their 12 games, with contests against Ohio State and Michigan as the only exceptions. While Oregon will hold a talent advantage over most of its Big Ten opponents, the Ducks do have a schedule that makes you raise an eyebrow. Their second bye doesn’t come until Week 13, meaning they will play eight-straight weeks in the middle of the season with trips to UCLA, Purdue, Michigan and Wisconsin.
DraftKings has released early point spreads on five Games of the Year involving the Ducks this season:
- Oregon -20.5 at Oregon State
- Oregon pick’em vs Ohio State
- Oregon -3 at Michigan
- Oregon -11 at Wisconsin
- Oregon -20 vs Washington
From a power ratings perspective, we show value on Oregon in that Week 12 trip to Madison to take on the Badgers. But like we just mentioned, that’s the final game of the Ducks’ run of eight-straight contests and Camp Randall is not a fun place to play in mid-November.
Oregon Football Betting Odds
National Championship | +850 |
Big Ten Championship | +215 |
To Make the CFP | Yes -240 / No +190 |
Season Win Total | 10.5 (o EV / u -120) |
To Go Undefeated | Yes +330 / No -450 |
Dillon Gabriel Heisman | +1000 |
Odds above courtesy of DraftKings as of Friday, June 21. Gabriel has opened as the third choice on the Heisman odds board behind Georgia’s Carson Beck and Quinn Ewers from Texas. When looking at Big Ten Championship odds this season, keep in mind that the conference has gotten rid of divisions. The days of Michigan and Ohio State beating up on the West Division representative are over. The Big Ten Championship Game should be much more competitive moving forward than it has been in years past.
Oregon Football Returning Production
Oregon is projected to return 12 starters from last year’s team: Six on offense and six on defense. According to ESPN’s Bill Connelly, the Ducks are expected to return 69-percent of their production from last year: 68-percent on offense and 70-percent on defense.
Head coach Dan Lanning is looking to replicate last year’s formula with a veteran transfer quarterback. Bo Nix was 23-years-old last season when he led the Ducks to a Pac-12 Championship Game appearance and finished third in Heisman Trophy voting. Fellow 23-year-old Dillon Gabriel will get the nod this season after throwing for 3,660 yards and 30 touchdowns last year at Oklahoma.
247Sports creates a composite ranking based on each team’s incoming freshmen and transfer portal class. Oregon has the No. 4-ranked class of incoming talent behind Georgia, Alabama and Ohio State. Per Brad Powers, Oregon had the Pac-12’s best freshmen class for five-straight years prior to joining the Big Ten. The Ducks are no strangers to competing on the recruiting trail, and Coach Lanning retained his offensive and defensive coordinators from last season.
Senior receiver Tez Johnson looks poised to re-write the Ducks’ record book after catching 87 balls last season. Johnson had 11 catches for 172 yards and a touchdown in the Ducks’ 45-6 win over Liberty in the Fiesta Bowl. Running back Jordan James averaged 7.1 yards per carry last season while finding the end zone 12 times.
