Oregon State vs Oregon Betting Analysis
The Platypus Trophy will be on the line in Saturday’s Oregon State vs Oregon clash in Corvallis between two top-25 programs.
A couple of weeks ago, the Ducks had hopes of reaching the College Football Playoff. Now, Oregon is just hoping to hold onto its spot in the Pac-12 Championship Game.
The Ducks saw their eight-game losing streak snapped against Washington two weeks ago and nearly blew a two-touchdown lead last week against Utah before escaping with a three-point win.
Oregon State also had its issues against Washington a few weeks ago, losing by a similar three-point margin as the Ducks did. However, the Beavers have since responded with two blowout victories over California and Arizona State, and are a very dangerous 5-0 against the spread at home this year.
Oregon owns a 67-48-10 series advantage over Oregon State, but the Beavers have won two of the last three against the Ducks at home in Corvallis.
Bo Nix Battling Through Injuries
Oregon’s offense has been absolutely lights-out this season across pretty much every facet of the game – No. 5 in total offense, No. 3 in yards per play, and top-20 in both passing and rushing offense – but Bo Nix’s foot injury remains a real concern for how dynamic this offense can be moving forward.
While he toughed it out against Utah last week, Oregon just didn’t look like the same team offensively, especially on the ground where Nix’s scrambling ability often proves a real threat to opposing defenses.
The Ducks managed just 2.4 yards per rush against the Utes last week compared with the Arizona Wildcats putting up 6.2 yards per rush against the Utes just two weeks prior.
Oregon State’s Underrated Defense
While a -4 turnover difference impacted the Beavers’ only blowout loss this year against Utah, Oregon State’s other two losses have been incredibly close against two quality offenses.
The Beavers gave up just 17 points and 5.0 yards per pass against USC at the end of September and held Washington’s No. 1 passing attack to just 24 points and 5.7 yards per pass attempt in early November.
Oregon State’s defense continues to show improvement as the season goes on, allowing just 4.5 yards per play on average against opponents over their last three starts. They could provide a real hurdle for a potentially less-than-full-strength Oregon offense this weekend over in Reser Stadium.
Oregon State vs Oregon Prediction
We’re taking Oregon State +3 at home against Oregon on Saturday. Even without those recent issues at QB for Oregon, this Beavers defense is for real and they have enough threats on the offensive side of the ball, especially RB Damien Martinez who has put together five-straight games of 100+ yards, who can punish this Ducks defense on Saturday.
Oregon ranks 129th in the country this season on opponent third down conversion percentage so Oregon State should be able to move the chains here and get a win and cover against their in-state rivals in Corvallis this weekend.
Prediction: Oregon State Beavers +3
