Pitt vs Clemson Predictions
- Pitt Panthers -3 vs Clemson Tigers
- Total: 48 Points
- Clemson is 0-6 vs. the spread this season, joining New Mexico and Missouri for the nation’s-worst honors in 2021.
- Pitt is 5-1 against the spread this season with that lone loss coming at home to Western Michigan.
The 2021 Clemson Tigers (4-2 overall, 3-1 ACC) team hasn’t lived up to pre-season expectations. The Tigers’ season-opening loss to Georgia has aged well. Clemson’s Week 4 conference tilt against North Carolina State resulted in a 27-21 double-overtime loss, the second setback of the season. The bookmakers have shown constraint in making wholesale gaming adjustments to the actual market value of the Tigers. Dabo Sweeney’s Clemson teams have been ACC powers for almost a decade, and while it has become evident this 2021 Clemson squad isn’t going to be a college football title contender, the market has been slow to react.
Las Vegas and Offshore sportsbooks positioned Clemson as 3-point favorites in the Week 1 matchup against Georgia. The Tigers have been double-digit favorites since dropping the Week 1 game to the Bulldogs. Like in the season-opening loss to Georgia, both straight up and against the number, the Tigers have been overvalued the entire 2021 campaign.
Circa of Las Vegas opened Pittsburgh as two-point home chalk over Clemson on Sunday. When this game preview went to press sharp money had moved the game line across the key number of three making the Panthers -3.5-point home favorites for Saturday’s matchup. Pinnacle and Heritage experienced some buyback on the Tigers when the handicap reached minus-3.5 and minus-4, respectfully.
Pittsburgh has exceeded expectations and under the leadership of senior quarterback, Kenny Pickett are ACC title contenders. The Panthers control their destiny in the Coastal Division with a 1.5 game lead over second-place Virginia. Pittsburgh’s only loss this season came against Western Michigan Broncos and the defeat was an outlier. As Pickett goes so go the Panthers.
Clemson’s starting quarterback and pre-season All-ACC candidate D.J. Uiagalelei has struggled behind an offensive line that’s failed to deliver NFL potential. Furthermore, the true value of what now-NFL running back Travis Etienne Jr brought to the team in his four-year Clemson tenure was vastly underappreciated.
Pittsburgh (5-1, 2-0) under the direction of Heisman candidate Kenny Pickett is the real deal. The Panthers QB has thrown for 1,934 yards and 21 touchdowns against just one interception this season. While Clemson comes off a 17-14 road victory over Syracuse the better team on the Carrier Dome field last Saturday didn’t win. Clemson’s Saturday matchup against Pittsburgh is the first time the Tigers will have been an underdog (+3.5) this season. When all is said and done Saturday afternoon at Heinz Field Clemson fails to cover for their backers and move to 0-7 against the number heading into a Week 9 home date versus the Florida State Seminoles.
🏈 Pitt’s offense has scored 21+ in the first half in every game this season. The Panthers have been scoring points from the opening whistle, and @robvenosports is focusing on that as he breaks down this week’s ACC clash between Pitt and Clemson.

Pitt vs Clemson Analysis from The GoldSheet
The Tigers dodged another bullet in the first season where they’ve actually looked vulnerable in ACC play in a decade, surviving at Syracuse 17-14. Clemson has still only surrendered more than two touchdowns in a single game once – back in their Sept. 25 loss at NC State – but it will be running up against a Pitt offense that ranks third nationally behind Coastal Carolina and Ohio State with 48.3 points per game. The Tigers rank second behind only Georgia in surrendering just 12.5 points per game but also haven’t faced a team that can sling it like Kenny Pickett and the Panthers can. Pitt was held to a season-low 28 points last week at Virginia Tech but still won by three touchdowns and utilized their ground game extensively to chew up clock on the road. Pitt’s only loss this season did come at Heinz Field against Western Michigan, but it is averaging 56.3 points per game at home in 2021. The Tigers are a 3.5/4-point underdog, which marks the first time they’ve been catching points in an ACC game since facing Lamar Jackson-led Louisville in 2016. DJ Uiagaleilei continues to struggle with accuracy and decision making, but he’s a tremendous athlete and will be tough to stop. Pitt last beat Clemson in Death Valley in 2016 but has been outscored 94-27 in two meetings since.
