TCU College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?
Things broke nicely in ’22 when TCU surprisingly reached the NCAA title game. The same wasn’t true last year, and TCU fell to 5-7. The Horned Frogs expect to rebound this year.
2024 TCU NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:
TCU lost 12 players to the NFL after ’23, nine via the draft. Three players were drafted this time (3rd, 4th, 5th rounds). The RB unit looks weaker on paper.
Their offensive scheme usually produces solid #’s, so my projected #’s will show only a modest decline. The unit’s best position is WR, so more passing may ensue. I like the defensive secondary, who will now be under a new coordinator.
The overall defense won’t be special, but should be decent enough to hope that the usually productive offense can take care of the rest. The transfer portal might produce three new OL starters and five new defensive starters. Grading the transfer starters early is my biggest TCU watch. Kicking was decent last year. The new guy comes highly touted out of High School.
TCU Football 2024 Predicted Total Wins Prediction
7-5 or possibly 8-4, but that may depend on if their opponents, such as SMU, Texas Tech, Baylor and Cincy have improved, and not so much on TCU’s progression.
Will kicking matter? I say yes, for most of this conference.

2024 TCU Football Schedule and Games to Watch
TCU opens Big 12 play with an important game hosting UCF. The game at rested rival SMU could be a tough one, and it falls in between Big 12 affairs.
The most likely result is a split hosting UCF and at Kansas. 2-0 enables them to control their own Big 12 destiny with upcoming games at Utah and home to Oklahoma St. 0-2 sends them seeking a minor bowl bid.
Which defense is better, this one or visiting Texas Tech’s? Baylor has a score to settle when they host TCU, but the precheck is to see if they are really improved.
How’s Arizona’s new staff doing before they visit Fort Worth on 11/23? The finale is at Cincinnati, which “may” be an improved team, but won’t likely be a game that TCU can’t win.

I may lean vs. 9/21 at SMU (up to their stat sheet) and 11/2 at Baylor.
