Texas College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?
Locked and loaded! Only a TD by Oklahoma with 15 seconds left prevented 12-0, and their only other loss was 37-31 to Washington in the playoffs. Two areas (WR, DT) need restocking, but the rest of the team has very lofty goals.
2024 Texas NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:
QB Ewers throws a soft, extremely catchable ball. I’m glad he returned, because I need to see his fastball, and if he can fit throws into tighter spaces. The RB unit will miss its star, but should be decent.
There are massive losses at WR/TE. WR Bond (Alabama) fills one hole, with WR Bolden (THE OSU) offering quickness and return ability. The OL is solid. With 11 players drafted, there were some losses. In addition to WR/TE/RB, Texas lost two stud DT’s.
I expect run defense regression, but the Longhorns hope the #’s stay decent. I have the pass D% under 60% for the 1st time since ’17. That’s a clear check on my part. The only issue at PK is the large number of attempts (35).
They had 19 attempts under 40 yards, suggesting some stalled red zone drives. Let’s check that out as well.
Texas Football 2024 Predicted Total Wins Prediction
I think Georgia and the Texas A&M games are the toughest challenges. It’s not a perfect roster, but it’s certainly good enough to go 11-1.
Sark’s teams occasionally throw in games where their defense disappears. If that happens again, they could miss the SEC title game. Texas is a clear championship contender.

2024 Texas Football Schedule and Games to Watch
Texas has four marquee games, plus pesky games hosting Florida (but Texas is solid with rest) and at Arkansas, in a renewal of a longtime rivalry.
The four games are at Michigan on 9/7 (not easy, but the Wolverine roster is much different than in ’23), Oklahoma (usually close, Texas has revenge), Georgia (possibly one of the top games of the year), and the much-anticipated bad blood game at Texas A&M.
Don’t expect to get a cheap ticket for that one.
Texas Longhorns 2024 Football Expert HANDICAPPING TIP
I’m thinking of fading Texas should they play in the SEC title game. Why? They’ll be coming off a highly emotional road game at A&M (unless it is a one-sided affair).
Otherwise, while we will see inflated (public) lines, I do not plan to go wild fading this team. Let’s chart WR and run D/DL play to see if the presumed roster cracks are fixed, and to what extent.
