Tulsa College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?
Kevin Wilson came here with previous head coaching experience, plus six years as Ohio St’s coordinator. This is Tulsa, not Ohio State, so my 4-8 prediction was not surprisingly, an easy one to make. Tulsa hopes that’s the floor.
2024 Tulsa NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:
Tulsa retuned only nine starters a year ago. They are still low in that department (11 returning), but they do have their top two QB’s back, plus their top two RB’s and lead WR. With a slightly easier schedule, I expect some offensive improvement, although the OL may be a bit weaker right now.
Seven of their top eight tacklers are gone. Their leading sacker (by far) is gone. The defense needed new, and better talent anyway, but there’s no real remaining talent to build on. The front seven is going to be in trouble, and the secondary appears one year away from true improvement. Only two seniors are slated to start, and both are transfers.
The 2nd year coordinator prepped at the FCS level and the jury is certainly out on his ability to turn this around in ’24. Chase Meyer hit 17-20 field goals and promptly transferred. Tulsa added the backup PK from Memphis (3-5 last year), so maybe they can be okay. It will be an area to monitor.
Tulsa Football 2024 Predicted Total Wins Prediction
Regression to 3-9? 4-8 wouldn’t surprise me, but to achieve more than that, the decent backfield has to carry the torch, and the defensive coaches have to work a bit of magic to get that unit to improve.
I did go UNDER 4.5 wins, but sadly, my scheduling grid puts this their projection 4.5, so I will take a 2nd look at this team to see if I want to keep the play.

2024 Tulsa Football Schedule and Games to Watch
Tulsa’s best win was at NIU last year. Maybe they can beat Arkansas State, but that’s a road game vs a team I feel will be improved. Games 4-6 are at Louisiana Tech (which porous defense is better, or maybe which defense is not rock bottom), at North Texas (another team with defensive issues) and home to Army (Tulsa is 34-56 ATS if installed as a home favorite).
Tulsa did win two of its four games on the road last year. Their game at Temple should be winnable. Two November home games should be competitive. They have a scheduling advantage hosting East Carolina on Thursday, 11/14. Motivation for both Tulsa and FAU will be one of the determining factors in the final game.
Tulsa 2024 Football Expert HANDICAPPING TIP
Fade mode worked last year. With a fair line, I’ll take Arkansas St on 9/7, and possibly go with North Texas on 9/28 (with stat sheet clues), as I am not yet ready to trust this young squad in the 2nd of back-to-back road games. If things improve, I’ll balance out my action later on, especially if lines get inflated toward the other side.
