UCF College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?
I’m not a huge Gus Malzahn fan, but one thing his team’s do well is run the football. Now, if they can fix defensive woes, the Knights could make some noise in the Big 12.
2024 UCF NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:
Offensively, QB K.J. Jefferson might be a seamless transition from QB Plumtree. Jefferson is potentially more accurate. The RB room is one of the best in the NCAA. One of their dynamic WR’s remain. The OL may drop just a notch.
Defensively, one word…WHY? Ted Roof is the new coordinator. This is his 17th career move in the NCAA! Yes, there’s been a handful of decent results, but this move irks me. I think the personnel overall (counting transfers) is on par with the ’23 group, but they lost their top two tacklers (by far), along with one of their top two pass rushers.
Kicking was just 13-21 a year ago, with multiple misses from short range. This same PK was 14-15 in ’22. Which version shows up now? Here’s two more nuggets: 1st the middle of the DL is experienced and touted in the Big 12. 2nd, UCF was just 3-6 last year in Big 12 play, but with a 268-269 ratio. Those are nuggets that can work in UCF’s favor.
UCF Football 2024 Predicted Total Wins Prediction
A split of games for UCF at Iowa State and home to Arizona could mean 6-3. 8-4 looks like the ceiling, despite the fact that UCF’s offense could be special. I’ll err on the side of 7-5 thanks to my “love” of Ted Roof.

2024 UCF Football Schedule and Games to Watch
3-1 or 4-0 “should” happen early, with the UCF game at TCU the tough one. It’s a bit strange to see a game at Florida occur in October. That road game has a pair of negative situations attached to it. Iowa St has tons of experience, but tends to win games close, and may not have a fully dynamic offense.
It’s a road game, but perhaps UCF’s PK can regain his form, and maybe Ted Roof will not mess up this game against a generally more predicable offense. November games could get trickly, and will require sound coaching and sound kicking.
They host Arizona and their new staff, travel to sometimes home relevant ASU, play at West Virginia, and close hosting Utah.
UCF 2024 Football Expert HANDICAPPING TIP
Unlike some handicappers, I don’t like too much change, which the portal and the NIL $$$ have given us. Somehow, this is another team that I was able to keep the mojo going, (6-0 ATS lately, 12-1 last four years).
I’m thinking high scoring 9/14 at TCU, a fade or pass at Florida 10/5, and a possible upset win hosting Arizona on 11/2 if placed in the role of an underdog. I might endorse the underdog in the finale hosting Utah, contingent on the stat sheets of both teams.
