USF College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?
USF went 4-29 under Jeff Scott, with home wins over Citadel, Florida A&M, Temple and Howard. Alex Golesh took over and went 7-6, including a confidence building 45-0 bowl win. Welcome to relevance.
2024 USF NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:
USF is still a work in progress, as they went 4-4 in the AAC, with a 281-316 point ratio. Nine starters return to an offense that was electric in ’23.
Fixing pass protection (43 sacks allowed) is the one big task. The run defense went from 6.1/235 to 4.4/150+, so not everything was bad defensively.
The pass D% was an ungodly 73.3% in ’22. Last year’s # was 61%. The pass rush produced a modest 23 sacks, but the team had just 30 in its previous 33 games. Let that sink in. Nine starters return defensively, which has seven projected senior starters. I “expect” further improvement. Kicking was acceptable.
USF Football 2024 Predicted Total Wins Prediction
2-3 to start, and 4-1 to finish? That puts 8-4 in play if they win October home games vs. Memphis and UAB. I love the momentum achieved with the bowl win, and the returning talent is exciting. Still, 8-4 won’t be easy. USF is a dark horse team to challenge for the AAC title.

2024 USF Football Schedule and Games to Watch
USF plays at So Miss in-between games at Alabama and Miami Florida. Having to face Tulane right after Miami is anything but ideal.
Both USF and Memphis will be rested before that critical game. Can they win this home game and the next vs. UAB? Rested again, this is when I expect USF to be at its best. The game at FAU might be a tossup, with the other late road games at Charlotte and at Rice.
USF 2024 Football Expert HANDICAPPING TIP
As a veteran team, I would prefer more play on as opposed to play against action in ’24 (3-0 ATS last season). My plan however is to wait, as games 1-5 are in a dangerously challenging order. Look for some potential play on situations once the pacing of the season eases up.
