USF went 4-29 the past three seasons, with home wins over Citadel, Florida A&M, Temple and Howard.  Alex Golesh is the latest guy trying to right the ship.

USF Football Predictions: AREAS TO WATCH

It may surprise people that USF ran 5.55-203+ per game in ’22.  The top guy is gone so there could be a drop.  There’s experience and excitement at QB, especially with Golesh having been at Tennessee the past two seasons, but little WR experience is here, and four starting OL are gone. 

USF was gashed defensively, and that’s being kind.  They allowed 6.4 per carry and an astounding 73.3% through the air.  The more veteran defense (mostly juniors) might be coached up, but there’s a lot of ground to be made up.  USF recorded 14 sacks in 12 games a year ago.  That doesn’t sound like much, but the previous two seasons produced a total of 16 sacks.  USF is on an 18-game losing streak on the road.

USF 2023 Predictions, USF Schedule:

USF will have an easier schedule, which is more than welcomed.  They beat Florida A&M 38-17 in ’21.  They host them again now, and A&M was 9-2 a year ago.  Can they complete with Rice (home game)?  Next up are road games at Navy and UAB, two teams who also have new coaching staffs.  The ceiling is 2-1 in these three games, and 3-3 before hosting FAU, who also has a new staff.  The two November games they can compete in are home to Temple and home to Charlotte.  Much will depend on how far the run game has regressed, the revamped OL, and something unexpected out of the defense.

USF Football Bottom Line:

Last year USF had a senior-laden team, but still regressed badly.  3-9 with this softer schedule is possible, but one warning sign would be a loss at home vs. Florida A&M.  Even in the watered down AAC, this team has too many issues to overcome.
