NFL

  • San Francisco closed as a 7.5-point favorite at most books. The 49ers led 34-24 in the final minutes before the Lions scored with 0:56 remaining, cutting the deficit from ten to three and allowing Detroit bettors to sneak in the backdoor.

  • Saint Peter’s closed as a 10-point road favorite at Siena and won 63-52.

Prop Report for Sunday, January 28

NFL

  • Clyde Edward-Helaire’s o/u receiving total was 5.5 yards. He caught two passes, but only generated three yards.
  • Receiving props for Chiefs’ tight end Justin Watson closed at 1.5 receptions with o/u 17.5 yards. He finished with one catch for 16 yards.

NFL – That Was Annoying…

  • As is the case with most NFL games, the line for made field goals was o/u 3.5 in the 49ers-Lions contest. San Francisco’s Jake Moody missed one, and Lions’ head coach Dan Campbell elected not to kick a field goal on fourth down on multiple occasions. They finished with three made field goals.
  • Patrick Mahomes’ rushing attempts total was set at o/u 4.5. He had three going into the final drive. Once the Chiefs got their final first down, Mahomes took a knee three times to ice the clock and push his rushing attempts from three to six. What a way to turn a bet around.

Houston vs Texas, NCAAB.

Houston continues to gather accolades for its defense, and they are all warranted. After beating Kansas State 74-52 on Saturday, Wildcats’ head coach Jerome Tang called the Cougars’ defense one of the best he’s ever seen. Houston’s defense is No. 1 in the country in efficiency, points per game allowed (51.9) and field goal percentage allowed (35.1-percent shooting).

Only four opponents have topped 60 points against the Cougars this season. Using season-long numbers, you might assume that Texas’ offense is capable of doing some damage against the Cougars’ defense. But if you focus on recent results, your confidence may diminish.

The Longhorns are averaging 76.8 points per game this season, but they have been held below that mark in nine of their last ten games. Texas has only score 80 points once since Thanksgiving. Since the start of conference play, the Longhorns’ defense has been allowing teams to shoot 49-percent from the floor. Texas has lost three of its last five, including a 84-72 loss at BYU on Saturday.

The (other) Cougars shot 64-percent from the field in that game, and we just don’t trust the Longhorns to bounce back in this spot. Houston forced 18 turnovers in that win over Kansas State. The Cougars have won each of their last four games by at least seven points. Another result like that will get the job done in Austin.
