Close Game Report for Monday, January 29 – It Was… So… Close…
NBA
- The Cavaliers vs Clippers total closed at 226.5 points. The final score was 118-108.
- The Celtics closed as an eight-point home favorite over the Pelicans and won by six.
- The Kings closed as an 11-point road favorite at Memphis and won by nine.
- The Nuggets closed as a four-point home favorite over the Bucks and won by six.
NCAAB
Both of Monday’s marquee college basketball games came down to the betting wire in one way or another:
- The Virginia Tech vs Duke total closed at 146.5 and finished with 144 points.
- Houston closed as a 4.5-point road favorite at Texas and won by four in overtime.
From the college basketball “extra” board:
- Norfolk State closed as a 12-point home favorite over Morgan State and won by ten.
- The Delaware State vs NC Central total closed at 134 points. The final score was 69-66.
- The Houston Christian vs SE Louisiana total closed at 139.5 points. The final score was 80-58.
- The Southern vs Mississippi Valley State total closed at 134.5 points. The final score was 78-54.
NHL
- The Ottawa Senators dug a 3-0 hole in the first period against the visiting Nashville Predators before scoring three goals in the second period to tie things up and scoring the game-winner in overtime for the 4-3 OT win.
Upset Report for Monday, January 29 – Have Fear of the Underdog!
NCAAB
Not many! You can usually count on some upsets on Monday in the MEAC and SWAC, but there was only one of note: Arkansas Pine Bluff beat Grambling 86-70 as a six-point road underdog. Here was the GoldSheet’s write-up on that game from yesterday…

NBA
- RJ Barrett (knee) and Immanuel Quickley (thigh) are both out for the Raptors against the Bulls.
- Patrick Williams (CHI) is out against the Raptors with a foot injury.
- De’Andre Hunter (ATL) is questionable to play against the Lakers with a knee issue.
- Anthony Davis (LAL) is questionable to play at Atlanta with an Achilles issue.
- Tyrese Maxey (PHL) is questionable to play at Golden State with an ankle injury.
- Joel Embiid (PHL) is questionable to play at Golden State with a knee issue.
- Kristaps Porzingis (BOS) is questionable to play against Indiana with a knee injury.
- OG Anunoby (NYK) is questionable to play against Utah with an elbow issue.
